Target businesses for SMS marketing?

I have targeted restaurants, bars, and clubs because I know that SMS marketing will increase their sales.

My question is what other businesses are you targeting for SMS on a local level? Besides Coupons and appointment reminders, what other benefits does SMS offer local businesses?

Businesses with a need for appointment reminders can be good targets which mightn't be obvious at first.

SMS reminders can save them on no shows

Fast food, retail stores, auto dealers/repair, medical clinics, veterinarians, trucking companies, travel agents, insurance sales people, utility companies, churches, non-profits, political groups. These have high volume, pay particularly well for related services and can also be a powerful networking base for referrals.

I think I had my mind set on coupons, but now see that sending reminders could be a very profitable niche.

My question now is, Besides coupons and reminders what other benefits could
    SMS provide for local business?

From my experience of doing this, you need to build a really solid profile of the people you are marketing to.

    I wrote the process here:

I have found a company that will sell me every cell phone number in any zip code for $299 they seem very legit. They also tell me that I can send out as many sms messages as I want from outlook on my computer. I havent seen or heard of anything like this on the forum. Is this a practical way to do sms marketing. I thought about sending out messages from here with just a advertisement and making them go to a landing page or web site to opt in to get on the list. Seems to me this would be a good way to build a list. Anyone know anything about this sort of company

That sounds like SMS spam to me. If they have not opted into a list I certainly wouldn't send them text messages, especially through SMTP.

Precisely. This exposes you and your client(s) to serious legal risk:

Spam: Unwanted Text Messages and E-Mail

There is now even a wireless phone Do Not Call list and tighter anti-spam laws being enacted. What I have found effective is to put opt-in messages with client discount incentives on cashier receipts, table tents, posters, post card mailing campaigns, media advertising, etc.

You can use it to schedule appointments. You could also use it to generate new subscribers to your list. It will also give customers/clients immediate access to you when they need it.

If you have alot of clients, hopefully you won't be bombared on a daily basis with advice and suggestions from your clients. So you may want to juggle whether or not you want to include this in your marketing strategy.

A trick that has been working well for me is I have been going around locally and anytime I see a store/bar/restaurant/whatever that has a newsletter or email signup in their store I target them. I ask how effective their email marketing works, and that I have a way that to get their message out instantly and much more effectively to their subscribers.

I have finally found a GOOD use for the Yellow pages... Go through each category and cross of those who you wouldn't want to market to. What's left is a great start and I found a bunch of industries I wouldn't have thought of otherwise.
