    Hi Scott,

Have tried this, with limited success but I did get some replies, etc. However, I did not do a full campaign I just did a once-off email and waited for replies, and did not follow through. I am sure it could work but you would need to do research.

IE - know who you are targeting so that when they read the email they feel it is at least a bit personalised.

Here's an email I sent a client yesterday that got me the job.

    Hey Client,

It was great to meet with you this morning at the Chamber event. I hope you don't mind my email - I've done a little research for you guys and I think this could be a huge opportunity for you. From your website it looks like you have very ambitious plans to expand and grow from Midlands to coast-to-coast.

I've drawn up a list of items that I think would help you succeed in the local marketplace.

    1. What you need right now, starting up, is online visibility. When I search for [keywords] - you guys don't show up (except in your paid ad). According to Google's keyword tool, there are 320 monthly searches for [keywords]. That's 320 potential clients per month. If you even got 10% of those searches as clients, that's 32 new clients a month, about 1 per day.

    2. Your main competition is this guy:[spot A in GP link]

He's ranked in the A spot for [keywords], you can see for yourself:

    [link]

2a. When you guys reach the top spot, you can choose to stop spending dollars on the advertisement you're running at the top of that search result.

    3. You need a Google Places page, but I would strongly encourage you not to do that yet. It's much, much easier to rank the Google places page in the A spot if you do some preliminary work beforehand.

    4. Your website has good copy, but there's no call to action for your potential customers. A redesigned website would allow you to easily update the page from the admin interface while also giving you a much more structured layout and make things easier to find for your clients.

Plus, I have a few tricks up my sleeve when it comes to wordpress, like being able to make facebook pages like this one: [facebook page] straight from Wordpress itself.

I know this is a long email, and it's not something I usually do for businesses that I don't work with yet. What I'm offering you guys is a chance to break out and get all those customers that are searching for YOU right now. I see huge potential here, so what I'm offering is this:

    1. Redesigned website with WordPress
    2. Google Places page
    3. 'A' ranking on Google places
    4. Implementing business systems that keep customer reviews coming in

[money] per month for 6 months. The monthly fee covers Google Places maintenance, keeping you at the top of the rankings for that time period, website creation and maintenance (and ranking your website at the top), submission to all the citation sources, and implementation, testing, and maintenance of the customer review process.

You mentioned at the meeting this morning that [money] is your average asking price - so if you [do your service] you'll break even on this service.

Give me a call, [number] and I can get started right away.

Thanks a bunch for your time,
    Mike Heath

I get a ton of people sending me their seo services for my instant-downloadz.com site. I don't respond to these folks because i know how to do seo myself.

Have you ever tried running an ad all over the place for your services? Emailing business owners seems time consuming and primitive. Have you ever brainstormed on ways that you can get these people to come to you... instead of you contacting them first? Or am i off topic?

Not off topic at all. If you could somehow come up with a non-conventional way of marketing a product/service to a business, you've got much more chance. IE - like the whole 'free consultation' thing everyone does now. I am sure at one point, not many people did that. Eventually people offered it because it was resulting in higher conversions and as such it was a bit of an 'out of the box' idea.

Now everyone does it... but if you can think of something equally as good by brainstorming unique ways to get in touch, it would certainly help, regardless if you're targeting business with a website, or without (so long as your service is relevant).

If he is already ranking high, you don't want to mess up that by changing the on-page SEO of his whole site. Just a tip there.
