QR Code on business card

I am getting some business cards designed and I think I'm going to have a QR code on the back with brief instructions on how to use it. I'm torn on what information to encode in the QR code, so I'd like some suggestions please. My thoughts:

1. It could simply be my contact information that will be added into their contacts on their phone.

2. I could send them to a URL with landing/squeeze page. This allows some flexibility with changing the page without having to change the code.

3. I could have it send a text to my shortcode, ie text NICK to 71441. This will return my contact information to them and allow me to capture their mobile number.

Any other suggestions or thoughts on which you like the best?

Thanks,

Nick

I map the QR code to my website. And have a mobile text business card text "keyword" for more information. Works great.

If you have a mobile friendly site which explains your business and has your contact details on it, then just put that URL into the QR code. Below your QR code you can put some text like “To get more information regarding ………………(the service or product you offer) scan this code with your smartphone” or something similar. This way the potential client has your contact details plus the details of your business.

Is there a way for a QR code to open up the contacts app on a mobile phone so a phone number and name could be added quickly?

I have one go to my mobile site. Next order of business cards I am going to have a video "nice meeting you" type of thing. Something real short and sweet. People love video and it makes it much more personal.

If possible, I would have 2 different business cards. One to your info page or LinkedIn Profile and the other to a mobile lead capture page with a offer/call to action.
    Split test everything baby !!!

these mobile-id/business cards are great ice breakers and giveaways to local business people. It opens the doors to upsell other services. Sometimes I get a mobile site contract and toss in the mobile-id.

I use my Mobile ID (see signature) on my business cards. It gives people more information than you can fit on your business card and still allows people to download your contact information into their phone.

As for the size of QR Codes, an inch by inch is recommended, but I have mine at .75 inches by .75 inches. It scans with most phones, but if it is a lower resolution camera on the phone, .75 x .75 can be a bit small.

I'm a fan of the Mobile Commercial Video. A Mobile Optimized page featuring a 30-60 second infomercial for your services, along with a Facebook LIKE button, to capture their info and demographics in an e-mail list through FaceBook.

Using techniques along the lines of Likify.com, for Instant Mobile Coupons, you can redirect to another mobile page after the LIKE, to an Options page with multiple mobile links such as, add your contact info to their phone, send you an SMS, Visit your mobile site, or direct dial your contact phone number.

I did #3 on my card. But I would also add an auto responder so that you not only capture their mobile number but their name/business as well. Mine reads "Thanks for connecting, please text your first and last name or businness back so that we can stay in touch."

Both actually. It depends on the usage, and whether I want to rank the video for keywords and general searches (YouTube and Facebook), or if I want to hide the video from the general public and use it as some sort of action reward (self or amazon s3 hosted).

I have both a QR that goes to my mobile website, and a mobile call to action (text my name to a short code) -which leads to my business card on their mobile phone.

WOW! Great thread. I think it's time to climb out out of the "Ice Age" and get on the QR bandwagon.

Regarding the size question, doesn't it really come down to what you're putting in the code? I mean, a URL has a much lower density code than a vcard so it should be scannable even by lower resolution phones at a smaller size, I would think. Anybody tested this?

I know I'm getting into this discussion very late... I've used a greeting video with a QR code for awhile now and it is really effective... for the people who actually scan it... lol.

I just uploaded my video to youtube and entered the url... works great!
