It looks to me that the first 3 sites are authority sites in the used car niche.

I have seen these types of sites beating maps listings many times and found they can be beaten.

I agree with localbusinessguy and think you will need to use sites like Yelp UK, Touch Local, Thompson Local.

Point links at the review pages the business is listed on and that should do it.

I would do the same as Keith and use the local directories to rank the business as well as building out the Maps/Places listing.

I agree...the top 3 are being seen as authorities for that keyword.

Just do the things people are suggesting and become the authority for those keywords.

For you places page, citations and reviews are like links for regular websites.

And it sure wouldn't hurt to get links pointing back to your website listed in Google Places that say the keyword you are wanting the place page to rank for.

  Just register usedcars-sheffield.com and start building links to it. You'd be surprised at how easy it would be to rank for this term with an exact match domain, not much competition.

run a competition report to see what those guys have done and try to outrank em by doing more then them buying a kw rich domain obvious helps and its doable to get yourself in the top 3 build some nice citations 50+ use anchor text to interlink em with your gpl ,do 20 my places placemarks, create a kmz file and a few others and you should be linking them to your web url too

don't build citation links to your places page. Citations around the web should include a hyperlink to the website that is associated with your places page.

Was just wondering how to do the anchor text links to the Place Page.

I know you can add a URL to your website but haven't seen the anchor text link thing.

Ah I understand your question.

At this point there isn't a way to get anchor text into a link on your places page. That is why having a keyword rich domain name is so valuable, it automatically allows you to get keywords into that link even though the anchor text is just the domain name itself.

Not on the place page...on citation sites is what I was wondering.

But after Anthony seoserviceagents last comment, I am now wondering how you do it on Place pages.

I'm working on a very similar keyword phrase here in Essex. Currently a places listing "A" position is at the top followed by 2 authority websites, then the remaining places listings so yes, the authority sites are beatable.
