At the moment it is 1 in 10. I know not very good, but I work on my own and my consultancy is a small part of my business at the moment.

But also the question got me thinking - sorry. We all like to close more business, but I think there are other factors that come into play.

@ Cost of service - for example let's say I was offering to write a classified advert for a business to sell on Craigs list. The price would be low, as you would have a basic template for the niche you were working in and it would just be copy, paste all day long. Your ratio would be a lot higher as you would be charging something like 10.00 per advert, with a minimum of 4.
But if you were offering a fully fledged eBay, consult - set up shop, list and manage the entire process (all client does is ship items) your fee would be a lot, lot higher, thus the uptake would be harder.

    Hope this makes sense

Are you great on the phones and have a clear and coherent voice? If not, then you may want to consider using direct mail to reach your intended prospect.

On the other hand if you are good on the phones, then go for it. You'll get more no's than yes's, but it's something to try if you actually enjoy cold calling.

No one's answer to your question is going to help you unless they are selling the same thing you are, have the same list and call for the same amount of hours.

As a telemarketer/appointment setter I can tell you that I can't give anyone a "quota" until I've called for them. You are going to give me a different list than Bob will, you are going to have a different product. Even if I call for the same amount of hours on a list with the same amount of numbers, your results will not be the same.

We have 3 jobs right now...in one I call 20 hours and book 10-12 a week, another I call 40 hours and book 3-4 a week, and another is 10 hours and is 20-25 leads a week. I am a constant, yet the contracts are not. KWIM?

Also, your list may be just a random zip code list, that's not going to get you as much as a target list.

If you want to know how cold calling will work for you...give me a list and 10-20 hours for a week and we'll see.

Too many variables to really put your finger on, so it wouldn't really be an accurate number. I have found networking to be much more effective for this industry.

I think the success rate depends on the product, market and sales cycle.

My cold calling success rate has always been 3 out of 10 and I've gone back to cold calling more than once over the last few years because it does continue to work especially since not everyone has the opportunity to check their email or use the Internet every day.

cold calls can be annoying sometimes, esp considering there're so many companies in the market trying to grab a bite by this seemingly more cost effective means. in my opinion it's getting much and much noisy and ineffective right now so best choice might be seeking something else

My clients appointment calendars suggest that you are quite wrong. Perhaps you haven't had someone calling for you that knows what they are doing.
