I have a signifant interest in BT marketing and have made several headlines in national papers regarding this means of marketing.

It is a great mechanism for relaying advertising messages, as long as people are in the "proximity" of the device. I've leased and sold many of these units and it is quite successful, particularly 2 for 1 offers.

For your clients interested in this the key thing to note is that the offer must be compelling. Simply notifying people about their store/restaurant isn't enough and will become a nuisance. An offer/call to action with a TIME STAMP on the message is key.

Here's an example of how I took BT marketing one step further.

Key things to note about bluetooth marketing devices:
The range advertised on the units is worthless. The cell phones have to have the power to opt in, giving them a realistic working radius of between 10 and 30 metres depending on the cell phone. Devices boasting broadcasting raanges in the 100s of metres wont do your client's campaign any good if someone is in another block receiving a message from an unknown/unseen store. It's called Proximity Marketing for a reason

Having signs up notifying people they are in a BT Zone will dramitcally improve optins.
Seated people (i.e. restaurants/cafes/hotel lobbies) work best in my experience.

    I hope this helps.

Bluetooth marketing is also known as proximity marketing, here's another interesting example that goes beyond product-to-device communication, but rather product-to-product.

I experienced it at an airport the other day. I was walking buy a large entertainment ad poster and as I walked by there was info being relayed via my b.t. while in the prox. Very interesting.

Hmm, this is one thing I had never actually heard of. I could see where it could work well with a compelling offer, especially as people are close enough to take advantage of the offer. I will read up on this more. Thanks for starting this conversation and sharing your info., guys

ONCE UPON A TIME there was a Warrior named Bob. He was sad. And frustrated. You see, Warrior Bob spent every last nickel on Internet Marketing e-books. But nothing panned out. No traffic. No sales. He was one sad Bob. Then one day Bob found a bottle. He rubbed it and out came a Genie who granted him 3 wishes. For Wish #1 Bob asked for a pet Dragon. Wish Granted. For Wish #2, Bob wanted Warriors' websites seen by 53 million TV viewers, for under $5 per broadcast. The Genie said... (click here)

Maybe I'm not seeing it for what it actually is, but I feel like too few people run around with Bluetooth turned on at all times. Especially with the horrible battery life of most Android phones. Anyone wish to challenge my assumption?

That depends on your countries driving laws pertaining to mobile phone usage while driving. Here in Canada you must use hands free devices or risk high fines. Rarely do you turn off your bluetooth every time you get out of your car.
