Walking in to businesses to make sales in person?

Hi everyone,

I was shopping in local high-street when I saw that one of the estate agents had QR codes on their posters.

So I think should try and sell my services in the local high-street and to train all the businesses in how to use QR codes and then provide mobile sites for them!

There was only one other estate agent open today so I will have to wait until Monday. But I'm wondering what hints, tips and strategies people have to get some sales in person.

Because when I've spoken to people about QR codes and mobile site, many seem interested but none have so far followed through and booked my services.

Today I've just received my new business cards with QR codes, so I can now show them how I've set it up to link to my mobile site. Tat may make a difference.

Anyway, let me know if you have any ideas for me on how to make sales in person.

And another question. Do you charge for consulting, for example to sit down for an hour and explain how to use QR codes? Or do you do that for free and then make money on setting it up, setting up a tracking system, creating the website etc.

Just wondering if I'm not valuing my time by having meetings for free?

You need to make sure that you are following up with everyone that you spoke to. While preferable, some people just don't get closed on the first contact. Face to face sales is the best - but you need to focus on HOW YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE THEM MONEY. That's all they care about. One thing that has always helped me in sales -- Cater to their WIIFM Factor & you can close them on the first contact.
WIIFM = "What's In It For Me"

That's an AWESOME IDEA! I'm going to do the same.. If you can show them your results using the QR codes, that will really help with the sale. Especially since you will be more confident pitching something that YOU KNOW works.

I usually charge a large up-front fee and then smaller monthly payments. This covers the set up and time that you'll be spending to get everything going.

This won't be appropriate for all types of businesses, but it's generally a good idea to visit the business a few times before giving your pitch. This gives you the opportunity to identify the decision maker of the establishment, and will give you a feel for how things are run there. It will also do wonders for your image, as it will portray you as someone genuinely interested in the success of their business rather than someone just looking to make a quick buck of of them.
