If you have the phone number of the company, you could just make some calls like this:

"Hi, my name is ________ and I have a free guide i'd like to send to the owner on marketing your company online... could I have his name to post it to please?"

Then you have the name of the owner / director.

One of the first things you should do is visit their website/chamber of commerce listing and see if you can find the info that way.

The next best way would be to call and get the receptionist to give it too you by just saying "Hi I need to speak with the person who handles your advertising/marketing. Can you tell me who it is I should speak with?"

90% of the time they will tell you exactly what you need to know.

As others have said, you can just phone up and ask for the name of the person in charge of marketing, and then ask the person to spell the name if you are uncertain. Also ask if they have a direct line - sometimes this will get the person off guard and you may get their cell number as well.

If they ask why............... just say you have something you would like to send them that will benefit the company.

You can visit website and also look in yellowpages etc.

But the receptionist should tell you all you need to know. And on that topic she / he is your best friend, and treat them so. They are your golden ticket to anyone in the company. They also have the power to block you from seeing, speaking, or writing to anyone in the company.

If they have helped you, why not just send them a little gift, and the next time you phone the company and the person you want to speak to is playing hard to get, your new best friend will get you through.

If you like to go into the call already knowing the owner's name, I use Manta.com.

It is a goldmine of info for finding owner and manager names. I also have started using Jigsaw.com a little. Between these 2 sites, I have been able to learn the names of owners or managers between 50-75% of the time.

Yes, you USUALLY can find the owners name by calling and then call them back later using their name, but this requires you making 2 calls.

I find that if you know the person's name beforehand, you will save time and only need to call 1x per business.

Manta.com is a great resource for finding owner's name, but does anyone know a good resource to finding the owner's email since that info is not provided on Manta.com. Or once we have the name we can call and ask the for that person and if available get it from them or ask the gatekeeper if they have that info if owner is not around?

Infousa.com is another awesome site, you have to search businesses individually, but they have a LOT of listings with owner/decision maker names.
