Hello i am looking for a marketing (offline) ideas to my friend's launching tattoo salon. any suggestions will be accepted thankfully

    You also need to go online. Do not need to hire anyone just take the benefits of social media sites like facebook, myspace, twitter etc.

    Things you could do:
    1. Research for words(keywords) that people are using in Google to find your services

    2. Create an website ( Get visitors email address by using a form, offer them incentives to get onto your list)
    3. Create an Mobile Optimized Website that match your main website. Use Qr Codes to Market your Mobile Website and your special offers.
    4. Claim your Google Places
    5. Optimize your Google Places page and Rank it on the First page
    Use the best 3-5 keywords you found on 1st step.
    6. Create an Facebook Fan Page, Market it + Buy Ads on Facebook
    7. Create an Twitter account and Market it
    8. As Luke says. Install a sms reminder service for your friend letting customers know when their appointment is, plus sending them special offers. Offer incentives to get them on your sms list.

    Offline, right? Contact a list broker and tell them exactly what you want. Who is your perfect prospect? Describe your prospect to the list broker. Tell them you want to do a "test mailing". Be as specific as possible on demographics (age, occupation, income, etc.) and geographic area. You may have to spread out on demographic area to get a decent mailing list. Send a postcard with sample tatt's on one side with an offer on the other side.

    Another idea: Consider contacting local bike dealers (I'm kind of partial to Harley's myself) and talk to them about a joint venture promotion where they mail a postcvard to all their customers about ??? A "CONTEST-DRAWING" for a FREE Tattoo. They have to bring back the postcard to the Harley shop to be entered into the contest. Maybe the bike dealer will throw in something too! Everyone that brings in a postcard will be entered into the contest and they must provide their email address to be notified when drawing is held. Every name should then go on your friends mailing list. Then he can email them with offers, updates, etc. and continue to promote his businesss to those that entered the contest!

    Just thinkin'!

    If it's a new business, joint ventures like the one I mentioned above are the absolute #1 best way to get your buddy up and running in his/her salon!

      Along with the motorcycle tie-in, try car clubs as well. In my region of the country we have a lot of car clubs that host special events. Usually the event is just a car show where people bring out their automobiles to try and win trophies. A couple of these clubs are advertising on Facebook and I have noticed several tattoo shops are advertisers. Maybe your friend could print out some postcards and contact some local car clubs to ask if the cards could be handed out at the next event.

      I really like the previous post too about putting up a website, Google places, Facebook fan page. All of that should get the shop noticed and drive in some leads.

    a taco shop a few years ago had a promo that if you tattooed their taco shop logo on yourself you could get free tacos for life. Tweak that somehow I guess. Local radio (college radio maybe ?) give a live tattoo on air to the dj and some winners, plus tshirts but they have to text in to be eligble, now you have a list for future blasts, not just for his shop but EVERY tattoo shop

      Here are two things that are guaranteed to work as they were in my local paper.

      Tattoo heading for the Twilight zone - News - getreading - Reading Post

      One is that you must have people where you live who think stuff like this looks nice.

      So your friend can announce a competition via the local paper that he will do something like this for free. Or the first sitting for free as this kind of thing takes a few sittings apparantly.

      Like this lady it helps if the person is lower class and thick because they are then open to national ridicule whilst the tattooist actually gets praise for his artwork. This article got picked up by The Daily Mail who have the largest online readership of any newspaper in the UK.

      Second, if you scroll to the bottom of the article you will see that off the back of it (pun intended ) he organised a Tattoo show which was quite successful. People came from hundreds of miles away.

      Failing all of that he could get David Beckham to open the shop. He will get in every newspaper in the world then.He was in the paper the other week getting his new tattoo with some celebrity tattooist. Why? Because he is David Beckham.

      For a total laugh and this is what I would do, have him locate his tattoo place next door to a Laser Removal place and have some sort of voucher towards the removal and they can have a voucher towards a new tattoo.

      I am thinking:

      1. I love abc being tattooed
      2. I love abc being removed a couple of years later
      3. I love xyz being tattooed

      being next to a removal place will also get free press most likely picked up by national or State if you are in the US as National is a little larger than the UK.

      These are real things that are really working for this guy and will work for your friend too.

      Business is booming for him. I think he is opening another place soon.

      Well this place is not even a town. It is a farm outside a small village in the middle of nowhere.

      But over the decades it has become one of the largest music festivals in the world.

      Jay Z and Beyonce are there this year. It is actually this weekend.

      So unless you are in Switzerland where they would not like a festival of tattooist you never know.
