Is It Worth Going After Customers That Use PPC?

Just wondering if anyone goes after customers that use PPC to advertise their business.
Is it in fact easy to target these businesses because:
1) - they already know the value of marketing on the internet
2) - they are spending money to advertise

Or is it more difficut because they can probably do the tasks themselves once they see what you do.

Well what are you going to sell them PPC Management or SEO services ?

If PPC Management then your going to need a case study of how you can improve their ROI and drive down their costs.

If SEO then your going to need to have a case study of a client who was doing PPC poorly (like most clients) and how you increased ROI, lowered cost and saved the day.

Also a business doing PPC to advertise their business may have another company doing it. I know because this has happened to me before.

Personally, I've been focused on create lead generation sites i.e a site that I own and rent out.
I'm just concerned that those that are already using PPC could probably be internet savvy and so use the technique I use themselves, hence would no longer need my services.

        I think it's worth it

They already spend a lot of money on adwords clicks, so they KNOW the value of those clicks

If you tell them you can get them a few hundred extra organic google visitors per month, they'll be able to quantify how much that's worth (based on their average cpc)

So you can make a pretty good case as to the value of SEO services

I've got a ton of clients this way... find local businesses who are spending a lot on adwords (just by searching) that have 0PR sites and poor SEO

Absolutely they're worth going after, it's one of the methods I use to get high paying clients. I like to find who is paying for PPC page 1 with No organic link on page 1. Then I find where they rank organically, page 2, 3, 5, 9 etc...

Page 2 and 3 are normally pretty easy to land as a client, they are so close to Page 1 and very frustrated. I target high PPC keywords and show the client the return on investment in what I have to offer.

A few months ago I landed a client who was spending over $3,000+ month for a crappy Adwords campaign, I mean crappy. Not only did I reduce his Adwords cost and get him more leads, but with the Adwords savings (over $1,000 month) he is giving to me for seo, places, etc... $14,000 annualized fees, not bad for very little work.

The client is ecstatic and told me he is busier than ever thanks to me. I signed an exclusive one year agreement with him, 3 months later HE called me back and asked if we could extend it to 2 years. My outsorcing cost are so small it's pathetic, I keep 90% of the monthly fees.

Can I ask what you classify as High paying PPC roughly?

Agree with Mr Optimo Here. Its a perfect opportunity to help them capitolize on the same keywords they are currently paying for and incrementally drive down their cost and up their profits.

They wont be in as much of a rush if PPC works for them already, and you can explain to them how they can incrementally move away from paying for clicks as they rise naturally in the search engines... Business owners understand that kind of incremental growth talk. They live it... they look for ways to ramp up and ramp down, and they relate to that more than "Im gonna blow you away with sales in 30 days...".

          Good luck.

Look for companies that are doing PPC but doing it wrong. I can't tell you how many times I've seen pizza parlors in North Carolina advertising to people in New York or other stupid money wasting mistakes.

I hear all the time how offliners should be approaching businesses who don't have a website, etc. but in my opinion they're the worst people to do business with. It's 2011 if they haven't bought into the fact that having an online presence is valuable yet, they're never going to. Trying to convince people like that the internet isn't just a fad is like pulling teeth. It's much easier to try to sell to clients who already have bought into internet marketing but haven't been able to make it work out for them yet. People who are doing PPC but wasting gobs of cash on it are perfect clients.

Right on. I have a medical doc that bought into the local newspaper's IM (a subsidiary of a well known brand) since they're print advertising wasn't pulling anymore. They were convinced it was worth a test and with the known newspaper so I sat back and let 'em ride. Within no time they were calling freaked out about it netting 3 out of state calls and nothing local. Calls from Alaska and Virginia were worthless. - So yeah, worth going after because they're not all doing it right or getting the results they want or need.

Hello, Going after current PPC local businesses that are not doing it right or loosing money. I work for a company that does PPC management and I have to attract my own local leads so I can go visit etc. Does anyone have a system or advice that you can share on how to find the right businesses that are currently doing their own PPC but would be a good lead? Any help would be so appreciated.

Definitely YES, they're using online advertising, so at least they know what is the internetzzz and how they can profit from it. Sometimes what happens is you face some customers with a) good knowledge doing things for themselves, and b) customers already with a signed contract with a offline company.

    But definitely worth it.

It might still be beneficial to do it because although they may be able to do the tasks themselves, they may not have the time to do it, hence the reason why they are hiring you

I have a friend online that almost does nothing but that. He identifies high ppc spenders buying keywords that he knows he can rank for organically, and goes after them. It doesn't take many to build up nice fees, according to him.

I don't do SEO at all. I need clients that are doing PPC that I can go after to improve their SEM campaigns. I don't know how to target, find and contact these customers properly.
