Fivver Google Places review flagged....

I was reviewing a clients website, when I see a negative review from someone who said that those reviews were fake and was placed from a Fiver account. Will this effect my clients GP site? And what can I do to rectify it?

Were the reviews actually from a fiverr account? I don't know if there is a process for disputing reviews but if there is one and they find all reviews from one or a close block of foreign addresses to your local site it might not go over well.

If the reviews were fake from a Fiverr deal your client could be sued/fined. That is an illegal practice, providing fake reviews. That is what I would be worried about.

Why would the client review his own site negatively? I think what he's saying here is that one of his competitors paid someone to review the site negatively - which is an awfully unethical piece of behavior. You can do a few things - fight fire with fire - but I don't recommend it. Try contacting the review board and ask them to verify reviews - don't be scared to get aggressive and threaten to sue for libel if they're really not true. Get creative. The best thing would be to just get more POSITIVE reviews that would outshine them. Think about ebay - people with 30,000 positive reviews don't care if they get 5 or 10 negative ones because people will ignore those.

Thanks for the tips everyone. The person that wrote this negative review and stated that my clients paid for fake reviews on GP, also flagged 70 others in 1 day. I have no idea what thats about. But my client and I responded and like jondabach said, continue doing great work so they can get more positive reviews.

If the reviews were legitimate, I'd think your client would have a case against that poster for libel.

If the reviews were really fake, your client could get into a world of hurt with the FTC.

Any accusation that could get your client in trouble with the FTC is something I would take seriously and encourage your clients to take seriously as well.

If he flagged 70 others in 1 day as you say than i will be sure that Google will remove it.It raises red flags all over the place.I won't worry about it but i will forward the issue to Google and also mention some of the other 70 posted.

Nop, actually posting numerous reviews at the same day is NOT, I repeat - NOT, against Google's guidelines and spam filters do not detect this as phoney practice. In fact, Google's community team regularly promotes prizes for the person who writes the most reviews at the same day.

That said, the review won't be removed by Google's spam filter. That is for sure. You can reply to it as the verified owner, and you can flag the review as inappropriate. Eventually, you can proceed with suing the commenter.

They were all BAD reviews. You could check if the user has any history in posting reviews and that could lead in an One Time posting of 70 bad reviews being a spam? Was he mad on everybody? I guess replying as the owner and flag them will do the job.
        Thanks for the tips anyway.
