How should you handle clients that service different areas?

Had a question for you guys:

I'm talking a little bit with a local upstart company (trash collection) that services different cities/counties.

What would be the best way to approach an account like this for selling them IM services?

I mean, a google places listing is great for their home city, but I don't think that a listing in that city is going to show up for a city that's 40 miles away (even though they service that area), right?

As for organic ranking; would it make sense to buy up domains that are geared for each city/area that they operate in and try to drive traffic that way? Would it make sense to maybe offer a "rent-a-site" model (I love the idea of these)?

My initial thinking is that maybe a PPC campaign may be the best way to go for them....that way they can easily target different areas.

What do you guys think the best way to approach this would be? I would like to offer services that would be the most cost-effective for them...but still get a decent payday!

I really appreciate any input!

You need to get a " Clients " mindset for a moment - When you choose a trash company who told you about it? Your Neighbors / Home owners association / Realtor?

So How can you make this new company stand out -
    1. They Need a Strong website with a USP - Unique selling proposition - What can they do to separate themselves from the competition

    2. Think Client Conversion - free Month of Trash pick up as a offer or Free Trash can ?

People dont change trash companies like phone services.

    Just my opinion looking in...

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one trying to tackle a situation like this! lol. Though your situation is 1000x worst than mine!

Hey TW - Great thoughts on ways that the client can differentiate! In my local market there is (surprisingly) a lot of competition from multiple companies. I get oversized postcards all the time from all of them offering those type of deals. It's great, b/c we pay next to nothing for trash service!

Do you have any thoughts about the best way to set up their "web presence"? (Not the USP, but more of what I should do to get them "visible" in multiple cities online)

Thanks again TW for the input!
