Getting Offline Clients With Limited Time

Hello everyone. I am really excited about this forum. I am looking to break into local marketing, however, the problem I have is that my time is extremely limited. I work full time and that doesn't even bring in enough money to cover our bills. So, I have to go to school as well because I get some extra living allowances from the GI Bill, which makes it possible to cover those bills.

So, from what everyone here is saying, I understand that cold calling is one of the most effective ways to get clients, however, I am working during business hours and so can't do this. Does anyone have any other recommended means of getting clients with a limited amount of time?

If you're going to do cold calling you want to go where businesses are already paying for advertising, such an the yellow pages and the value pack. Try calling on some of those businesses and let me know how it goes.

You might want to outsource some of those cold calls. I know you are strapped for cash, but maybe you can create a job posting on Craigslist telling your workers that they can get paid for every successful sale they generate.

You sound like you're in a bit of a pickle, so I'll try and help as best I can.

You're only option if you don't have time OR money is to get somebody else to invest theirs.

That means finding a monied partner, or as OOoOO suggested (and in my opinion the better route) finding somebody willing to do the (time) sales if you'll do the follow up work.

Just make sure you're offering a service that has both front-end, and residual income.

For example, if you find a guy willing to sell mobile websites for $299 and split it 50/50 with the salesman. Plus get an ongoing $15 monthly hosting fee which you split 33/66 if your favor.

That's $150 each (rounded) plus the ongoing $5/$10

Same pricing model can apply to a FaceBook Fanpage, SMS reselling or a regular website. Whatever your introductory product is. All of those four products should result in ongoing payments.

It doesn't sound like you have the time to do the back-end work to support a full-time salesman, and that's fine. Look for a part-time one. They can be a bit flaky though. Expect non-performers and turn-over.

This may sound a little underhanded, but I don't think so since you are the one setting him up with a business model and organizing it all. Anyhow, word the contract that he only collects residuals as long as he's actively selling for you.

That way when they eventually leave, you get all the residuals for yourself.

Let's say you start out w/ the mobile site sales. You find a part time salesman who is a bit lazy, but you'll still easily sell two a week if he's truly trying 20 hours a week.

In 50 weeks that's 100 sales. 100x$15 is an extra $1,500 a month coming in. Now the salesman quits for whatever reason. Oh well, your back-end income is now the full $1,500 instead of just $1,000! (assuming you were giving him 1/3 of the residual income).

You've both earned 50x$150 on the front end for a total of $15,000 which breaks down to $1,250 monthly on the front-end, plus the $1,500 on the back for total monthly income of $2,750.

    Wash, rinse, repeat.

Also, once you have a foot in the door with a customer with say the mobile website. Now it's easy to sell 'em a FB Fanpage. Get a few hundred bucks for the page, and charge another $15 for the monthly hosting. Now you've got $30 coming in monthly from that one customer.

If you can sell 1/4 of your 100 clients that fanpage, that's an extra 25x$15 monthly. An extra $375 monthly, and you haven't even made a single cold-call yourself.

Obviously the above is purely hypothetical, but it's also pretty reasonable for a one-year goal.

Best of luck in whatever you decide!

Honestly, you don't need that much time per day to cold call. You could build a part-time business cold calling 30 minutes a day. I'm assuming you eat lunch. Why not go sit in your car, or wherever, and call businesses that way? Once you get a few clients, you can afford to quite your job and ramp up your business.

Thanks for the great ideas everyone. I'm also thinking of doing direct mailers.

If you do mailers I'd recommend printing them off yourself if you have the time. Making the calls will probably be more cost effective than the mailers.

As everyone else stated you are best off leveraging your time. My wife actually makes most of the initial calls for our business. I think follow up if someone is interested.

Create an Actionable Plan - It can be as simple as:

Monday: Drive through town on the way to work - pull over.. write down business names and or if you can mentally remember them

Monday Lunch: Search for online presences- Note the Positives and negatives. - Create template reports with the pro's and con's ( pick 5 for review)

Monday Night - Out of the list of businesses - use your mobile to see if they have mobile ready websites

Tuesday - Review the information - and consider the local economy and possible marketing aspects for that business.

Wednesday Evening: Stop by the business by a product and then ask to speak with the owner.. Show him your ideas and see if would like to work with you

    Thursday: Develop the products

    Friday - Test

    Saturday - Deliver

Sunday - Rest and take mental notes on how to improve your game

** This is just an example but possible if you take action
