Going Offline? Get Your Facts Straight!!!

If you're going offline at the very least learn what the hell you're doing.

More and more people are offering services, but clearly some of them are not prepared to deliver some of these services. Yet, they charge good money to deliver the sites, or SEO, and in the end, it's a huge mess, even a guy reading W3C could make a better site...

Just yesterday had a new contract signed up (which is always great) but I went ballistic when the business owner told me how much he paid for that site he nows wants deleted and replaced by a new one.

The portuguese company that created that site assured him it was optimized for 10 keywords and it's was a great option, etc etc. So this guy pays a huge amount of cash to discover the site does not have H tags, page titles (WTF???) or a simple sitemap, among other HUGE problems created by these morons with no knowledge whatsoever both in Web development or basic SEO.

Thats why his company website is sitting at page kazillion for all his keywords!! No one visits that poor site except the ones coming from Adwords (monthly budget of 500$) but even those targeted visitors don't convert cause the site looks a "informative blog" and doesn't have a minimal sales funnel, a phone they can call, a email, NADA!

It's a huge mess.

Guys, if you're going offline, at the very least get your facts straight before signing a contract. The market is growing every year, but if we let these morons kill our good name, we'll have a hard time next years.

/Rant off/

Yep... I've railed on this issue for a very long time. Reminds me of the early days of the web, when tools like Frontpage and Dreamweaver came along. All of a sudden, every idiot hack who wanted to hang out a shingle was "an expert" and taking money from business owners without actually returning anything that remotely resembled something of tangible value.

It destroyed the market because in order to keep getting business, these low end hucksters kept dropping their price to the point of becoming a commodity. It literally destroyed a good chunk of the SMB market, and burned a lot of business owners in the process.

If there's one thing that gets me steamed under the collar, it's a shyster hack mucking around, jacking with someone's business. Old attitudes die hard in that respect - but it's because I've had literally HUNDREDS of these kinds of stories from business owners. In some cases, the scammer hack took tens of thousands of dollars on a promise. Literally scammed the owner nearly into bankruptcy.

The worst is excuses for failed delivery. "My mom had a stroke... My dog ate my laptop..."

    Hi Michael

What pisses me the most is how some of these guys are destroying OUR reputation. And often they show up, make some deals, and run away...

All they're doing is try their luck and they're giving you more work and that should be good for you

What can you do when gazilion courses, wso's and briliant(rehashed/stolen techniques) are sold and people that buy are not that smart to follow some guidelines and do more research to offer the best value possible to their clients ! There are plenty of people(business) that are focused on hit&run strategies, of course they're not going to be successful in the long run but they're happy with the money they are making RIGHT NOW.

There will always be this kind of guys that "ruin" your reputation, in fact their ruin theirs cause if you are an expert and know to explain better and show the owner the benefits of having an internet presence and how they can more and more client for the years to come then you won;t have a problem with those guys that do sh** ...

And i guess you're an expert ... since you got their past client to work with you now.

I know, but some things are not acceptable, like a site with no Page Tittles?? a site with no Headings whatsoever??? This is not an "advanced" technique - this is web development 101.

And more: these guy were charging 100$ per month for "SEO". Guess what, all they did was create 1 blog and added 6 backlinks to customer website. Yet, they were charging money for "continued daily backlink for 12 months".

This is not ignorance, it's a pure lie. I am sure they know what is a backlink and how to create one, they even created one blog for it with a couple backlinks. And they surely know whats a Page Tittle cause their site has them...

Perhaps this is just the portuguese mentality, I don't know. Quite honestly I feel embarrassed by this issues.

My first website makeover was for a beauty related local company. They had been paying $50 a month for 9 or 10 years for hosting. It was supposed to include seo. Their title tage actually read, "TITLE"....I couldn't believe it!!
