my client needs 1 major countrywide website ranked for his industry niche but he also wants various citywide microsites (landing pages) ranked.

Can anyone suggest best practices and an efficient strategy to get him ranked high for each city microsite

Google places is an option but i think they may ban the listing if his business doesnt have any office/trading place everywhere.

To put this in some sort of context, some of you guys do city oriented listing sites targetted at a niche..this would be something similar if anything

have you thought about using subdomains for each city?

    i.e. london.domain.com ; paris.domain.com

    etc etc

Domains are cheap, why not buy one domain for each city?

50 states in the US, target largest city for each states > 50 domains.

Build one site, copy the rest using WP Twin or similar.

    niche + {city}.com/net/org or {city} + niche.com/net/org

Heck, my client is a local business and I even bought him 18 different domains, all exact match plus his city name.

Now, how much and how many months needed to rank for each particular cities is a different story, depends on competition.
