Bulk SMS if a feature that allows you to send a mass text message out to contacts in your database. It is a powerful mobile marketing tool being used by many businesses to reach customers on a platform you know they'll see, their cell phone. Send out text digital tickets and coupons or free text message advertisements, letting people know about upcoming sales, promotions, VIP offers, and events you have.

Yep I agree SMS is cool. Also try mobile websites, QR codes, FB and more for the business owner.

I have been doing offline consulting for quite some time but I haven't had much work with mobile marketing....and I'm not too much of an expert on it although I'm sure I can learn quickly.

Question, where do the contacts in the database come from? Is this from lead capture on the website?

What are the main things you offer clients regarding mobile marketing? A mobile optimized website?

I think the OP is mainly talking about text message marketing but offering a mobile website is good also....specially for Google places browsing by mobile search users.

You can have people opt-in with a short code text (ie- text "shop" to 4321) or via a website. You can even have table tents, flyers, etc. with QR codes on them that link to a mobile site with a phone number opt-in form.

Offline business owners are aware of the recent increase in the use of mobile devices such as ipad, iphone, blackberry, androids and how people use those devices to connect to the internet every single day. What they don't know is how to use this love for mobile devices as an opportunity to increase sales and improve profits. They might be willing to learn but time may no be there since they alway focus on the core business activities.

Therefore, your duty as an offline business consultant is to LEARN in order to educate, convince and provide the service for your clients profitably. Mobile marketing has many branches such as SMS marketing, mobile voice marketing(robocall), blutooth proximity marketing, QR Code, mobile website design, mobile application design, and the rest of others. Just study your client's business model and you will find out that at least one fits into their marketing plan.

Mobile marketing is definitely on the rise and a lot of Warriors that are very active in the offline forum have already started their own white label reseller account with Trumpia!

With mobile marketing becoming increasingly popular among businesses, it definitely makes sense to start offering this service to your own clients.

I agree SMS is lightning fast, literally putting your message into your clients pockets or purses seconds after you send. The average time for all mobile carriers and SMS services is less than 7 seconds from send to received. However, other marketing strategies are also incredibly fast, but nothing compares to the swiftness of SMS.

    Yup, I agree.

But no one here has mentioned mobile apps! iPhone has over 500,000 apps and Android has about 400,000 in their app marketplaces.

IMO mobile websites are good but can be limited while mobile apps can be displayed on the users phone home screen and be accessed with one touch.

Again, just my opinion, and I have already seen some success with local clients WANTING mobile apps.

People can still put a button on their smartphones homescreen linking to a webpage that can be accessed with one touch - just like you would bookmark a regular website on your PC.

Others would say that apps are limited because a user has to download the app before they can use it. Imagine how many apps you are going to have all over your phone if you are downloading separate apps for all your favorite restaurants and businesses?! Apps are good for certain things but for small local businesses I do not think they are needed.

I would much rather visit a local businesses website the few times I need to check something rather than having an app installed on my phone - it's not needed.

Yup...."Mobile" is HOT! I want to set up sales people to make personal calls on businesses to show biz owners what their website looks like on a Mobile Device.....and....to demonstrate how it could look on a cell phone and....the extra feature I include in my Ad Program is placing "QR Codes" around town and in newspapers etc.

This means I need a "Camera Phone with Web Access" AND....a QR Code Reader on each of my sales agents phones.

I don't want to give my sales people phones with "TWO Year Contracts".

So....does anyone know of any "Pre-Pay" or "Pay-As-You-Go" phones that can accept a "QR Code Reader" app.

WillR offered a suggestion of going to I-Nigma....which offers Models of phones that accept their QR Code Reader apps....however....they show a list of phone models and I'd have to check and see IF any of the models are NON-Contract. (Thanks for the link Will)

        Thanks,

Virgin Mobile. They charge $25 a month for unlimited internet and 300 minutes, no contract required. You need to buy the phone (hint: they can be found on eBay or Amazon for less than what the Virgin website quotes). They also have a "buy minutes as you go" program but I'm not sure whether the phones for that program are adequate for your needs. The $25 a month program supports a few Android smartphones and numerous camera phones.

Why not just make "owning a smartphone" a requirement to be hired?

I do NOT like being "tied up" for 2 years so....I don't want to ask people to do something that I won't do.

And....for what I want to do (just scan QR Codes).....I don't wish to pay for all the other things phones can do nowadays (I don't need something that will "shine my shoes" and "brush my teeth")

I just need an "El-Cheapo" "Camera-Phone with Web access" that can Scan QR Codes so that when my sales people scan our clients Code....our clients can SEE....for themselves....what is happening and....how GREAT the "Thing" we set up for them...works!

            Don Alm....onto something BIG

The only issue with apps is imagine having more than 50 apps on your phone, that'd be a bit of overload. I don't see it feasible for every business to have their own app, more or less the general public downloading all these apps...

True which is why you have to make the app attractive and interactive.

This is where you get the business owners input and get creative.

You can offer a "coupon unlock" when a customer "checks in" to the small business. Have a in app fan wall and offer small prizes for participation. Also, send in app notifications like an email broadcast.

And then there is the basics like GPS navigation to the business and also restaurant reservations etc.

Some of these ideas BLEW my clients away.

I have a flooring client who is excited about his app. With a simple feature like allowing users to upload their carpet or flooring images to his app gallery for others to view and get project ideas, making it interactive.

If the app stands out then there will be a reason for people to download and keep it.
