Marketing Brick and Mortar businesses

Hey everyone. I've created a number of websites for local businesses, and many are asking about marketing their website and business on the internet.

I've never done such a thing for localized, brick and mortar businesses.

Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences on doing this effectively, and charging for the service?

I appreciate the help.

One of the first things you need to do, is get that website ranked in Google. Start a back linking program, and make sure you get a contract so that you get paid. Set it up as a recurring payment plan through Paypal. Next, you need to get them listed in directories. Keywords are very important. Write some posts in the directories Merchant Circle is great, Yelp, Yellow Pages, Super Pages, etc. These should all point to the websites main page. I would also create a video, submit it to several sites. Link to main page. Do some back linking of the videos, then they'll come up on the main page. Do a Backpage and Craiglist listing of the business, link to the videos, main page or Directory listings. Would be good if it was a graphic ad that was clickable (Craigslist) Once you have established ranking, then apply to Google places. They changed their procedure, so once this is done, they will send a post card to the company to verify the site. It used to be that you could have them call the owner with the phone number on record, but too many IM were playing a game and putting up sites that weren't real companies, so Google changed the procedure. I haven't found a way around this. There is a right way and a wrong way to apply to Google places and directories, if you need more info, let me know. Hope this helps.

      BusyGal's advice is great.

Also, you can make a video (or videos) for the business and place it on YouTube with their best keyword in the title

IE: Dayton Ohio Pizza, for example, or Redding, CA Bakery

Place the business' url as the VERY FIRST thing in the description.

Then buy backlinks. For Youtube the quality of the backlinks doesn't matter, so Fiverr works for this. You should see the video rank high in YouTube within a week or so.

This will send traffic to the website.

      Rinse and repeat!

BusyGal's and Dawnmarie have great suggestions, implement these and the business will be ready to rock.

You can also look into FaceBook - set up a fan page for them directing people back to the business website - or better - set up a fan page for YOUR Business and then put in links for all the businesses you have helped. Then look into FBApps and create events for the businesses and make it go viral.

Then there are QR codes they can use in their print advertising to lead people back to the site, plus more....

I have found the multi-platform marketing works well....

Good luck - I love working with local businesses and creating websites using WordPress. they get ranked very fast and are easy to maintain.

    Cheers Susie
