What's the best way to set a client up with hosting? And what's a good fee?

I'm just curious about the process - when you get a new client, how do you go about setting up hosting? Will they just go with whatever you suggest?

Also, what if they already have their own hosting? Do you become the new admin and manage their account? Or, do you try to get them to switch?

Either way, what's a good fee to charge - if hosted by you or if they keep their current host?

I realize these may seem like rookie questions (since I am one) but I'm unsure about the process.

Has anyone ever seen a report written on this, a pdf or something that outlines any step-by-step procedures?

If you're selling hosting you need to go with a reseller plan.

If they have their own host and don't want to change you have to just charge them for maintenance, as for how much to charge you have to decide that BUT I see people usually 10 dollars.

I would also like to know that.

Thanks P1 - I appreciate you responding. I've read in a couple SEO's where they charge $30/mos for hosting and I don't know how they can get them to do that. I'm guessing it's because the client thinks it's just part of the cost of doing business?, or having them on retainer?, or something to that effect?

Many regular businesses have no experience with shopping around for online services, and a lot of them really don't understand what hosting is, so they have no idea what it's worth or what they're getting with different prices.

I charge $19.95 per month for the first 12 months, then $9.95/month after that.
