Created Business, How To Get Clients?

I have finished creating my business that specializes in website and mobile website creation, and I have compiled a list of about 15 different local restaurants, salons, driving schools, dentists, pubs, and bakeries.

Now, I need to get some clients. I am looking to start out with mainly mobile websites as that seems to be new and the future for businesses. Unfortunately, due to lack of transportation and support from family and friends, I can not have face-to-face meetings with potential clients, but I can utilize email, telephone, Skype, and online meeting software.

My question is this.

What kind of script should I use to get to the owner, and what should I say on the phone to get them interested?

My plan is:

1) Cold call, get their email and email them a one page mock-up of what their site would look like along with mobile website stats and info. Send invisible tracking link inside the email to tell when they have opened it.

2) Follow up with a call ASAP after they open the email asking what they think of the one page mock-up. Ask if they would be interested in a mobile site as I am just starting out and can offer a special discounted price.

3) If necessary, virtual meeting will take place and any questions are answered.

4) Client pays 1/2 up front, I deliver the mobile website and install code, I receive the other 1/2

How does this all sound? PLEASE make comments, corrections, and suggestions.

Also, what free online meeting software do you recommend? Thanks!

Sounds like a reasonable plan. Congrats on the first steps crafting it. Make sure you are doing all you can to establish *who* that business owner is, so you can have a more personalized approach.

Your plan presumes they have an interest in mobile. Ask: Is mobile the best service offering to be leading with, to hook them into wanting my help?

      Hello Techlover
First Thing, Congratulation on the guts to start your business. Second Maxxrefferal was right study your market not the fade or new thing. I am assuming that your are going after the local small shops first. I would suggest that you start by asking questions from the office manager/secretary. These ladies not only have the bosses ear they sometimes hold the purse strings. You might consider placing an old fashion ad in the local penny-saver, posting a flyer at your supermarket and your place of worship. Hope these few things are of help to you. Say at it and DON'T let the Dream Stealers stop you from winning.

Your plan sounds reasonable but you may want to consider a few things.

Cold Calling: Do you have experience in this area? Cold calling via phone is one of the more challenging tasks that beginning consultants face. Locate and read some instructional material on telemarketing.

    Other Marketing and Promo Ideas

    1. Get your site ranked for "Your_City Web Design" or similar local-specific phrases.
    2. Direct mail teaser messages.
    3. Contact prospects via an email address on their current site.
    4. Create a good press release and start distributing to local media (radio, newspaper, TV) in your area.
    5. Get listings in local classifieds (online and offline).

You should be aware of the fact that some business owners will insist on face to face meetings. Maybe you could use public transportation if it's available.

    Best of luck!

I agree cold calling can be difficult and rewarding. You need to develop thick skin.

A simple and inexpensive postcard campaign may also be effective and have the prospects call you which is a much easier sale.

A great telemarketing book "Cold Calling Techniques (That Really Work)" by Stephen Schiffman, is short and filled with confidence building techniques that any person who is serious about their business should have when they begin.

      Good luck!

Once I have a few clients, a local newspaper that services the major 3 cities in my area wants to write a half page article on me and my business (because I am still in high school, I seem to be considered a sort of commodity). They distribute about 75,000 total copies of their weekly paper, so that should be a solid amount of press release.

I would start a facebook personal file first if you don't have any and then start a business account. So that your business can be seen on the internet and you can invite your friends on your personal file to come to your restuarants.

and on your business account or FAN PAGE you can connect with your customers. Send them a Grand opening special, weekly special, reffered program special you get the idea. let me know if you need assistance on your facebook.
