(UK) Noob success renting 2x sites (so far)
I am quite new here.
I was looking at creating and renting some local sites then I realised I had two that I wasn't using.
I checked the first site and it had 1st place on both Google Organic and Google Places for the target keyphrase. The phone numbers on both the site and the places listing were disconnected! This site also had 1st place on Bing for same keyphrase.
I checked the second site and it was about position 5 or 6 on page 1 of google for the target phrase.
I sent an email to around 20 local businesses in each niche offering to put their phone number and email address on the 'contact us' page of each site for a fee of £100 per month payable quarterly in advance.
I sold one within 2 hours (and got paid) and the other in about 2 days.
Providing they stick with me, I have achieved an income of £2400 per annum for two sites that were doing nothing.
At the moment, I have put clients email and telephone number on each site (not a good idea i know) but I am going to change to a phone number that I can divert so that I can keep phone number the same if I change clients and also monitor number of leads. I will also take off clients email addresses and use a form on each site so I can monitor leads. This will help me determine fair rental price in future and also get another client if any of these ones leave.
I have realised that another 20 of these and I won't have to go to work anymore :-) so I registered about 30 local keyword rich domains and have started work on them.
Where did I get the figure of £100 per month? I pulled it from the clouds.. nice round number.
The way I sold it was.. a year of paying me is £1200. How many leads would they require to acquire a client, who's lifetime value was more than this. I said as little as 1 sale/relationship would often bring a lifetime value exceeding £1200 - so thats 1 good lead a year to break even. I said they can expect several per month - its a no brainer.
Another side benefit of this is that I received emails from some people who I had to tell the deal was sold. I was careful not just to write 'sold sorry' but to strike up a conversation. I would consider these people as contacts now and even warm prospects for further offers of my services.
My current full time job ends October this year (it is contract), I am hoping I can take up on and offline marketing for local businesses full time and still support my family.
Hope this helps other noobs like me :-)
