Cover Your Ass When You Make Sales Over The Phone!

Ok so I'm about ready to go into a new venture that involves cold calling some businesses and I'll be making a lot of sales over the phone. I've already tied up a lot of loose ends like grabbing a merchant/gateway/echeck account setup and one of the main things that I just realized is I don't have a way to prove that I legitimately made a sale from someone. Has anyone dealt with this successfully? Like is some sort of confirmation email really all I need or do I need to have at least some sort of verbal contract over the phone(which I think would be too annoying for the customer)? I want this business to be 100% air tight legally so I'll do what I have to to make sure it stays that way.

The other two things I'm trying to figure by this weekend is:

1. Is there currently a way to put an auto dailer on Google Voice? Any recommendations are more then welcome.

2. How can I scrape business numbers from business directories from Yellow Pages, Super Pages and other business directories.

I am so excited I can't wait to get this going!

In many call centers right before the close, you would say something like this:

Now Bob, In accordance with federal and state law, this part of the call may be recorded for both your protection and ours, now I just need to confirm a little Information to confirm that you are the owner and that you do have full authority to make these decisions... (Turn on recorder)

    This is (Name) _________ correct?

And you are the Owner, and you have full authority to make advertising decisions for your business correct ? (Yes)

Okay and you are going to be taking of the advantage of purchasing the $399__________ package today correct?

Okay great. Im going to go ahead and turn the recorder off now...

Thanks Bob, we have to do that because...Believe it or not alot of times manager gets on the phone and makes advertising decisions, that the owners didnt authorize (you are patronizing him now), so we take extra measures to make sure we are talking to the real decision maker for your businesses protection and ours... Im sure you understand (Bob is agreeing).

Now, As far as billing goes... we handle all of that electronically via visa master card or debit... Which one of those is going to work best for you today Bob?

You can set your dialer up to where , when it clicks on the question screen the recorder automatically comes on, and when you click to the credit card close screen it goes back off.

Dont ask me how , I usually have techs do that stuff.

Its a normal practice for most call centers... and business owners appreciate it more than fear it.

However, having an agreement to fax back a signed reciept is just as good, most call centers are moving too fast to want 100 telemarketers off the phone half the day standing around the fax machine... So they record.

Perfect. Yea thinking about it now it doesn't look like they are going to be too bugged about being recorded for the verbal agreement. The fax idea would work too and it'd be nice to have something in writing.

A bit off topic but have you been able to setup an auto dialer to google voice? I'm trying to setup something where once I hang up the phone another number is automatically dialed for me. I'd love any info on this, doesn't have to be GV I'm just trying to use it since its free.

There are several scrapers available, but if you are looking for contact info for all businesses, and not a specific niche (which is what I do), PowerLeadsPro is the best I've found, though the price is fairly high.

Last time I checked, Tim Castleman sells huge lists of all businesses in a specific city or state on his blog at a reasonable rate as well.

Unfortunately anytime you send them something that you have to wait for them to complete you may very well kill the deal due to the normal inaction of people.
