Google Citations - Shoot Me Now!!

I guess every newbie has to go through their first time trying to save a few bucks by adding in citations for Google Places on a customer.

Someone shoot me, please! This is absolute insanity!!!

Every site is different and I'm worried about making sure they are all the same in order to satisfy Google.

Oh dearest ODesk and fiverr, how I miss you! I'll never try to cut corners again!

we would normally outsource, but we got a little too cheap this time.

"what's a few citations" we thought!

    never again!

Yes citations still count just the same in the algo.
They just stopped showing them on the Place page. But really they have not been showing most citations for a long time anyway.

I have a big blog post about the all the changes in this update.

The more details section is gone too, but Google says they still read it and it still impacts the listings, just does not show. Same with 3rd party reviews.

Citations are really important. It acts like a link to your google places page. I normally put the citations in the articles and press releases that I submit to several directories.

There is no such things as a citation from a Google account???

Do you mean reviews? No don't only get G reviews.

Reviews, I just blogged 2 days ago about the best review strategy and explained it all in detail. So please check that post. It's important.

I definitely got this real bad. By the time I got an outsourcer, he told me it was in a mess and would take longer just to rank it!!

    Thanks for sharing your experience!!

When you guys do citations, do you copy the title tag EXACTLY, or just include the business name? I've had luck with both

IE: Google Local Listing says: Widgets For Sale, ABCWidgets

Do you do your citations with the full tiltle
    Widgets for sale, ABC Widgets

    or JUST the Business name
    ABCWidgets
