Hi everyone

I am working with a client at the moment who has a listing on yell.com under several different categories. It is coming up to his renewal and he is asking me whether I think he should continue. Personally I don't think anyone actually uses yell.com to find a business as Googling it is far easier. However, I am worried that because they want to optimise for local terms and all their competitors have links in yell.com, that they may drop down the rankings.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

    pretty sure that if done properly - yell - with a weblink is free. Agree that the Yell share price has not tanked for 90 odd % in last few years for no reason.

    Honestly think that the only benefit in staying on yell is for some link love (and that is minor)

    My argument, so to speak, would be does he even track what is coming from yell.com?

    I'm not sure what you mean by they are optimizing for local terms and that they may drop down the rankings. But You, as an expert and not a big Goliath company, can probably get him ahead of yell.com for any keyword with a well targeted on page and off page SEO campaign. And the savings to him... Forget about it!

    Here's a bed time story for ya,

    A previous business owner that I worked believed in all of the traditional media you could buy. We had yellow page ads and tv ads running at the tune of $25,000. We were a small business. When things got tight we had to cut all of this and he was completely terrified that our business would go down the tubes without advertising. Absolutely WRONG assumptions. Our business increased and our expenses dropped. That is when he started believing that you have to test your theories. I just wonder how much we wasted at the tune of $25k per month... ALL of it!!!
