How To Build This QR Code Campaign?

Landed a client (car wash) who is running a QR code advertisement on restaurant drink coasters and they want us to set up the landing page for it along with continual marketing to the list we build.

My question is about expiration dates on the coupon that they sign up for.

They'll get to the landing page, enter their personal info, and the autoresponder will send them a coupon for a free car wash to their inbox.

We don't want people to abuse the coupon by using it over and over again to get free car washes for 6 months.

How do we set it up so that the coupon can only be used one time?

We were thinking the best solution would be to set up an expiration date on the coupon. But the QR code is going to be live on the drink coasters for at least 6 months. We only want the customer to use the coupon once.

How have you guys tackled this issue with customers?

I don't really know a lot about QR codes but, surely if the same QR code is used on each bottle, eliminating one QR code after use will make them all fail?

I think the best way around this would be to either use a unique QR code on each bottle (Which would take far too much time up..) or use unique 6-12 digit numbers.

    Good luck!

If the QR code is tied to a url then you have control over the content of the url—the url doesn't change but your content can.

It may need to be database driven to control the 1 per person limit.

No expert here, but I agree with Creativegirl here. Can you control it by email address or IP address? Only send one to each email/IP? I guess you would not control it 100%, since they could use another computer or email, but you would probably limit it in this way.

I would just email then a unique coupon code for that month. So the secret word for the month of July might be 'parrot' etc. You then change that word each month. This also acts as a bit of an incentive to use the voucher soon since they know it won't be valid the next month.

In regards to people using the same coupons again, there is no way to stop this. People could just use different email addresses or phone numbers if they are really that keen to deceive you. The best coupons are those where you make money regardless so you shouldn't be worried about those who abuse the system.

If it's a car wash then they could easily record the rego plate of the car using that voucher so they know if the same car is abusing the coupons over and over.

You could do something like have them call to validate their coupon. When they call they get a serialized coupon code# which they must have when they come in to redeem the offer. The car wash should get some kind of information like make, model, license # before they give the code. This allows the car wash to control the process and they can segment their list into cars, suv, trucks etc for specials promotions.

    Here is your answer:

e-marketing platform Mailchimp is the all known, #1 choice for email marketing.

You can send mails with a unique QR-code for each subscriber or person in your list.

With the camera of a smartphone and the app 'Pyow!' you can scan this code and push the button on the touch-screen of the smartphone to validate the coupon.
You can even choose what the coupon contains and how many times the customer can use it.

Mailchimp offers a free service, smarphone you have to own or buy.
