QR Codes and Pappa Johns Pizza

I ordered a pizza last night for delivery and just noticed this morning that they places a QR code in the bottom left corner of the box.

I don't have a smart device but the call to action says to can to hear learn what makes Pappa Johns better and its a message from the CEO.

Think is the QR code is to small and I think that not many folks want to hear about what makes Pappa Johns better, dunno. I already order them so they are one of my preferred pizza places.

    Nice one.

You'll see more of these. In the U.S., the USPS announced they are giving
mailing discounts to businesses that add a QR to their mail. Their way of
trying to keep people using mail, despite their rabid increases in postage.

I see that QR codes are popping up all over the place. But to be honest I have never actually used one or felt like I should use one. Either the call to action is weak or the reward you get for scanning the code is not worth pulling my phone out.

Just heard from a fellow "Direct" sales guy who lives in a big town and travels the Pacific NW selling Ads on restaurant Menus.

When he checked into his motel....the clerk handed him his "Room Key" (Room Keys are Cards you slip into slots above the door handle)....on one side was a QR Code.

When he got settled in...he scanned the QR Code with his Smart Phone and up comes a Coupon for a discount off a Pizza....delivered to his room.

So....he presses the "Click To Call" button and orders a Pizza....FROM HIS MOBILE PHONE!

We're definitely in the "Mobile Age".

      Don Alm....getting "Mobile-Ized"

I recently heard about a beer company that decided to tell people how they make their beer. When they did this, their beer sales went up dramatically. The funny thing was that it was the same process everyone else used. The difference was that they did it first. Using education is a great tool to increase sales. We will definitely be seeing more of this.

What I don't get is the qr codes I've scanned that go to a page on their "regular" site, and not an optimized mobile site! What a waste of an opportunity.

Yeah people aren't fully comprehending what to do with QR codes just yet. They will figure it out tho.

Interesting story about the guy in a motel ordering a pizza from the QR code. Sounds like there might be a business opportunity for someone who wants to replicate that business model in another town.

I think I'm missing something with the key cards. Would you give the Hotel the new key cards? Most likely they have a set already with their own logo and company info. So maybe stickers? But then with stickers, you are not offering the hotel something free. I wonder what kind of kickback the Hotel would want for the sticker advertising. Seems like the ROI would be minimal? Then again, I've never tried key card marketing.
