Website Mockup Question?

5 replies
So I have a client who wants a completely redesigned website, mobile website, and a few banners.

I got the mobile website mockup and banners done, but now I need to do this website mockup.

Two questions:

1) How do you make a regular website mockup?

and/or 2) Does anyone make regular website mockups?

Thanks.

      One thing I've learned about building websites FOR someone. They can be a "Pain in the Arse!". You have a "sit-down" with them...go over what THEY would like to have on THEIR website....get their thoughts on what colors THEY'D like...etc

      Just for the heck of it AND...for your own "education" in knowing about the type of people you'll be dealing with...go talk to an "Interior Decorator".

      She/he will tell you....dealing with people's TASTES....is a BEAR! They constantly change their minds to the point of you...."pulling out your hair".

      So....Jack Mize (OffLine X Factor) gave me the solution a few yrs ago;
      "Build LEAD GENERATING websites!....ON SPEC!" (Speculation that someone will pay for what you've already created!)

      So...rather than spending HOURS trying to please someone with a "5 to 15 or 20 or 30 Page WebSite"....where they want to change everything.... every day......think about the following;

      1) Choose a Niche (preferably a Service Biz like Plumbers, Electricians, Pest Control, House Painters and....especially....ROOFERS....who charge a few thousand per job)
      2) Make up a 1-PAGE.....LEAD GENERATING SITE with a "Lead Generating Domain Name" and...make it Live on your server
      3) Phone 10 Roofers and tell them you have created a website designed to BRING THEM BUSINESS....give them the URL....tell them to "Take a Look" and....you are giving them the "FIRST RIGHT OF REFUSAL"! ....IF you don't hear back from them in 24hrs....you will phone another Roofer in the area!"

      I usually don't need to phone more than 2 in any "Service" category.

      Now....to give you an example of what I'm talking about...check out this site;

      Best of success to you,

        Midas,

        Do these websites you launch actually generate leads before you sell them. I've got a site that I've let sit, because I don't know enough about online promotion to push it. Any ideas wold be helpful.

        @the OP: Sorry for threadjacking. I don't have PM capabilities yet or I would have done. I beg your indulgence, and thank you.

    Regarding mock-ups (and I hope I'm understanding the terminology correctly), I have made sites for people that are on my server but do not have the DNS servers pointed to it yet. The URL is usually an IP address with an identifier at the end. Sorta like 99.9.999.9.99/~customername

    I do this through my reseller account on hostgator. Then I can send the link to the customer so that they can review it and let me know what they would like to add or subtract.

    I hope this is the type of information you were looking for.

    Thanks!

    You may think this is crazy - but something I've had success with before is taking templates from the web and just throwing the customers logo on there. Basic, but good enough to get their buy in without spending a lot of money up front.
