Howdy...since others are posting Promo Programs they've done...I'd like to add one of mine;

I call it..."EMPLOYEE DISCOUNT CARDS"

It's based on the basic psychology of any business wanting to "Show Their Employees....their Company "Appreciates" them.

I used to set up "Discount Cards" to help raise money for Boy Scout and Youth Groups. This is where local businesses would give a discount to anyone showing the Card...and local consumers BUYING the Cards and most of the proceeds going to the Group.

One day...I got a "Hot Flash"; Why not sell "Discount Cards" to EMPLOYERS...that will cause employees to GET A FEELING that their Company...CARES about them....and....instead of "sharing" the proceeds with others....why not have ALL the proceeds "Go Into MY pockets"....since I'm the guy who created and sold each Card.

So...I made up a Sample Card and went out and got local businesses to agree to give a GOOD Discount to anyone showing the Card.

This was FREE to the businesses offering discounts (mostly Fast Food places) and... $10 per Card the Employer (HR Depts in big businesses) wanted to buy for each employee.

This was an "Instant HIT"!

I got my sponsors...made up a Template....ordered the Cards from my OnLine Supplier and....went "Down The Street" showing my "Pitch Sheet" (see photo at bottom) and Cards to local business owners (even got a hospital to buy 1,200 of them...and a trucking co, 350 and a few other big businesses....200 to 300 each)

Some biz owners bought 2 or 3. Others 7 or 8...etc. At the end of a few hours....I had sold at least 35. When I worked longer I sold 50 to 60...A DAY!

Like "picking up dollar bills off the street"!

So...I am NOT selling anything here. Just wanted to show you folks WHAT IS POSSIBLE... when you put your mind and body to it. YOU...take it from here! I've given you the basics.

    Great Idea,

    Thank you for sharing this. I think we all get so hung with online methods that we forget there are a TON of ways to make money and be your own boss.

    You could even incorporate this as a fund raiser with a local high school, split the profit and let them do all the selling.

    Cha Ching,

    Expand to a few cities over to the East a few cities to the West and you have a nice little enterprise going there.

    Great Idea,

    Thanks again for sharing.

    Hi Don,

    This is a great idea. You could also, instead of allowing businesses to add a discount for free on your discount cards, you could charge them a flat fee for inclusion. Granted, it would add another hoop for you to jump through before selling, but many would be willing to pay. Why? Because they know that someone who comes in to use the discount 1) will usually buy over and above what they need to in order to get the discount on the card 2) a number of new people coming in to redeem the discount cards will become repeat customers. It is a matter of ROI.

    I do have a couple of questions though:

    1) Do you do the card and pitch sheet layout yourself? If not, where do you get it done? What instructions do you give the maker? How many do you order from the supplier at a time?

    2) Can the discounts on the cards be redeemed multiple times w/in a period of time or are they one-off discounts?

    3) Where do you get the graphics for the individual discount ads (for Subway, the restaurants, etc)? Does the place provide you the graphics? What do you ask them for (specific size or format, etc)?

    4) Do you give employers volume discounts on the cards the greater the quantity they order?

    I really like your idea. I can see how it would be very successful.

    Thanks in advance for your time

    Tracy

    Good idea! My wife and I have a mobile auto detailing service and we actually started it by going door to door in various business parks offering our services at a discounted rate if they would put our name in front of their employees. The employees got a discount on our services just for working there, and the employers got to feel like they were giving something to the employees. We got a volume of business in concentrated areas, and great exposure when detailing cars out in the parking lot, as passersby would often inquire while we were out there. Not exactly what you did, but in a similar vein.

      As long as I'm about it...here's the "Pizza Kard" I used for our Fund Raisers;

      We sell for $10 to employers....split with the Group.

      Usually print and sell 1,000 (cost is $30)

      A "Win-Win" for everyone.

      Maybe this will give YOU ....some ideas.

    Don, great to hear from you.

    Here's a thought I put on Martin Buckley's thread about Auto Discount cards - and I actually am trying to put this together in my smaller (but not Roseburg) small.

    Instead of making it business card sized (although you could,) make it a bit bigger, but, put the logo of one of your area high schools on it. Get the businesses to give the discount, but instead of selling it for $10, sell it for $25 - and the students of the school SELL IT FOR YOU (and have it where they can only do it for a week!) For each one they sell, give $15 to the school, and keep $10 for yourself for your "expenses."

    Have an AWESOME sales contest - Give the top salesman an Ipad, #2 a Laptop, #3 an Ipod. WOWWEEEEE!!!!!!!!!! You just really changed a youngster's life - by showing him/her that they could go out and make it happen!

    Y'know, in a town that had a high school of 1,000 students - even if you just got 20% - 200 to REALLY get on board, and even if those 200 just sold 5 each - You'd still, after prizes and such, net around $8500 for a week's worth of work and little effort on your part.

    Duplicatable MANY times throughout the year!

    This is a great business idea.
    I'm wondering though, how do you get those discounts ? What do you negociate with (for example) the Domino's manager ? What's in it for him ? Out of the 10 bucks you sell it for, how much are your profits ?

    Thanks, great thread !

      How do you get those discounts? Every order pizza from Domino's and get a flyer on top of it with their specials and coupons?

      What's in it for him? FREE ADVERTISING

      Out of the 10 bucks you sell it for, how much are profits? 100% - $30 for printing costs... Or less depending on if you sell them or pay a salesman 50%
      Also depends on how many cards you sell....

      Hi Jeremy....good to see you "alive and well"....hope all is well with you.

      Well....if anyone here has tried tp do any sort of "FundRailsing"....where members of the Group are "supposed" to....Sell. What usually happens is (in MY experience anyway)....a few of the group (maybe 3 or 4) actually go out and "Sell" 5 or 6 Cards....while the rest don't sell any...or maybe 2 to their parents....and I....wind up selling the rest.

      So....I said to myself...."Self! You gotta get real and look at the handwriting on the wall!"

      "Why don't you (meaning, me) put together a program where YOU do all the selling (ya do it anyway)...and keep ALL the profits?"

      So....that's where the "Employee Discount Cards" came from.

      I also did another "Card" program with Video Stores. When Video Stores were going hot and heavy.

      I went to my local Independent Video Rental Store. Asked the owner if he'd let me sell a "Video Discount Card" that entitled the holder to "Rent 1 Video and Get 1 Free Rental"!

      Then I asked if him if I could make the Expiration Date....3 months away AND....I'd like to "make it worth my Time" by offering 20 FREE Videos (2 for 1's).....for $20 for ME....so I could pay salespeople $10 each.

      He agreed. He felt if I could bring in a few hundred new customers...even "giving away" 1 Rental with each paid for....HE...would come out OK!

      So...I printed up 1,000 "Video Rental Cards" and paid 2 HS Girls 10bux to go door to door and sell the Cards for $20 and they'd keep $10.

      Wham! Bam! Thank Ya...Maam! Sold those out fast and went to the next town 10mi away and did that for an entire summer. Made a Bundle!

      Thus....again, all it takes is to;
      1) Make Up A Sample
      2) Get permission
      3) Go Sell

      AND....put together a "FREE Oil Change Card"....8 FREE Oil Changes (exp in 24mos)...for $59!

      Got 3 Auto Repair garages to honor the "FREE Oil Change Cards" (They could ALWAYS find SOMETHING that needed servicing on ANY car or truck)

      Sold the heck outa those also with nice-looking HS Girls. Gave them $10 per Card.

      That was when "times were GOOD" and citizens were NOT "scared outa there shorts wondering what the Clowns running our country into the ground...were gonna do next!)

      Here's a picture of MY....FREE Oil Change Card! I called it the "Car Care Card!

      (Can't find the Video Discount Card)

        Updat on the "Free Oil Change Cards";

        In THIS economy....I would offer;.... 4 FREE Oil Changes for $20...with Expiration of 12 mos....and get 1 or 2 garages to go along. In fact....I've done these with just ONE Garage.

        4 Oil Changes in a year is 1 every 3 mos. Cost the garage 5 qts oil and a few minutes....on each oil change...and I will betcha they can find OVER $100 worth of work....maybe $200 or more....on EACH vehicle they give 4 free oil changes to!

        And....the "Garages" MUST be "Auto Repair" garages NOT those that specialize in Oil Changes.

          Re: Discount Oil Change Cards;

          I mentioned this on another thread but I'll include it here;

          I've modified this Card for MANY...small Auto Repair Shops.

          Make 1,000 Business Cards with the following printed on them;

          +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
          $10 OFF OIL CHANGE!
          (Photo of guy pouring oil into engine)
          Just present this Card at;
          Joe's Auto Repair
          1234 S. Main
          555-1234
          +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

          Get 10 plastic business card holders....put 50 cards in each and take to 10 local Family Restaurants and Coffee Shops (or 20)....place display next to or in front of Cash Register.

          Now....Auto Repair guy only gets $18 instead of $28. However, for 5qts of oil and a few minutes of time....he STILL makes some money AND...he gets to check out the engine and COULD find something that needs fixing....PLUS....the Shop has a NEW CUSTOMER....who COULD come back.

            Hello Don,

            Great money making idea. I was wondering what size business cards you use to place the coupons ads and do you use any type of security measures so the cards would not get duplicated. If so what type of security do you use.

            I am going to do this and since Christmas is just around the corner I think this would be a fantastic money making idea.

            Would welcome a reply from anyone.

    How about going around to restaurants and bars and have them offer discounts to Cooks, Servers, Bartenders, etc. There's a bunch of ways you could implement this but the underlying themes here is that Restaurant employees make great customers for any bar that caters to them when they get off work. Maybe a free appetizer every time they come in with a 2 drink min. order or something? Like others have mentioned there's so many ways you could implement this. I think one of the keys here is to get the businesses participating in providing discounts to give away above average discounts in exchange for the free advertising. Buy 1 get 1 or Half-off sounds better that save 15% etc.(it's the reason people shell out $25 for an entertainment coupon book) Thus adding real value to the card for those who will actually buy them.

      Figured I'd revive this thread in regards to Employee Discount Cards. If you plan ahead you will be ahead and time really does fly. Between now and Christmas, do your homework and find out the employers with the most employees as a start.

      Experiment designing your cards and start lining up merchants. A well executed plan beats anything else and with a little bit of planning, you are way ahead and could offer more than one type of card,

      Eva
