Just got my first client on July 23rd..

.. and I have already ran into a problem. I got in contact with their web design company, which turned out to just be another guy outsourcing, to have them upload an Analytics code. The first thing he mentions is that he is really interested in what my services were, and over the next few days we talked about running an affiliate service for me to take on all of his web design clients and handle their marketing campaigns.

On the fifth day I get a call from MY client telling me that Wayne has just offered to do everything that I am doing,

PPC management Google Yahoo! Bing and Facebook
Local SEO
Organic SEO

and all for just $30 per month

Can you believe it?
What a ridiculous claim to make! I completely understand that lower prices means that people can be more prone to make a purchase. However, when someone is already joining a program that costs $550, thats already a little bit strange. Luckily, he was at a dental convention where a local SEO company had set up a tent. He stopped and asked what the services typically cost and inquired about everything that I told him I would be managing for him. They confirmed I was in the ball park and the client is staying with me.. atleast for now

  • Oh yea, does anybody know the name of the scripts that help view, and organize data like # of backlinks and PR of old domains?

You can politely remind your client that when you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

I'd fire him. Anyone that anxious to jump ship for a too-ridiculous-to-even-consider-viable offer is a "red flag" of potential problems to come.

Then again, my starting price for clients is around $25,000+ so maybe it just helps to filter out the bargain-hunters.

Per marketing system implementation, with an average completion time around 5-6 months.

        Cheers,

Let's hope the web designer is on the way out, not you. Tough lesson to learn, but good to get it out of the way early.
