Lead Generation For Artists

My friend/client is a painter, does mainly sports oil paintings. Where would be the best place to generate leads? Each of the paintings is $750 for a 16x20 painting framed, so need to target people who have money to spend.

Here is a sample of his art:

Hmm since he does sports paintings, why not try sports bars or restaurants of the sorts? Post on craigslist, or try selling some on ebay? Try QR codes around your town, local ads, the mall?

Just brainstorm a bunch of ideas and branch off of them.

Tried craigslist and eBay with no success. Was thinking of putting up the paintings in a sports bar with his business card there too.

Would teenagers have enough money though? Taking the paintings to the stadium? Could be a good idea.

Just go around see if any bars/restaurants are interested in buying one. Try some sports related forums too. Try targeting a rich neighborhood and outsource some people to go door to door to sell? Flyers. Try to see if restaurants/bars can refer you customers and offer them a payment? That's all I got about right now.

Sports related forums are where you get banned easily, the restaurant/bar idea is great. I live in the rich neighborhood so I could have access to a big list if I can download the info that they give everyone. He has a 20% affiliate program for anyone who sells paintings for him.

Also to answer your previous question, take a look at nextmark.com and check out their mailing lists they have tons of information about each person including household income. Otherwise look around the forums for ideas. Goodluck.

Also, where could I buy leads or emails of people who are sports fans and have a household income of over $150,000?

I would approach sports bars, restaurants, health clubs, doctors offices that relate to sports medicines, chiropractors, etc.....and ask if you can show his art...hang them on the wall for a period of time, with a mention below each of the artist contact info & price....maybe rotate them month or two for more exposure...

The restaurant / doctors offices get some nice looking art instead of those $29.99 mass produced watercolors and gets to help out a local artist and the artist gets his work out in front of a target audience....it's a win-win.

Never thought of doctors and stuff, will go contact the local chiropractors...have two as clients so that won't hurt. Could even sell them to the offices to give them some nice wall art. That last part is so true, they don't want to look cheap so they buy high quality art.

Home Theater forums, magazines, etc. Also, you need to better define the average customer a bit better than "has a lot of money". Is his average buyer a male? Age? Hobbies (besides sports of course). What else does that demographic buy? Ipads? Gourmet foods, whatever. Understand this more and get into that average buyer's head more than getting in your clients head. I often thought about marketing art as well. The one lady that I knew did it had a client phone list and was on the phone 24/7 and gave deals to plenty of mavens which branched fast to their social connections.

Oh one more thing, the average millionaire actually does collect art (as investment and activity to bond with their spouses). You may want to read "The Millionaire Mind" to understand the reasoning and get into their heads more.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

The average buyer is a male normally 22-35, they buy sports memorabilia mainly. Looking at selling some of the art to people in my community now.

Here's for Art in America lists
Mailing List: Art In America by American List Counsel

You might be able to get lists of sports memorabilia collectors - probably similar price ranges. You also have to think of the mindset of the people when they see the art.
What about in high end hotels near stadiums?
There are also art consultants and some might specialize or handle sports related art. You could maybe find them in Manta.
    Good luck.

How about working with professional or amateur sports teams? Or, single out pro athletes via their Foundations so they could sell the art at their fundraisers for their charities.

Taking the sports bar or related ideas further, how about putting on an art show at these businesses. Like for an open house event for a chiropractor, or mid afternoon at a sports bar...

I know someone doing quite well by getting eyes on his art by getting it hanging on the walls of all sorts of businesses/offices, malls, kiosks, out of his car even...

Looking to try and get a gig with the local minor league baseball team, foundations is a great idea! Thinking of going to the Sharks charity wine and art auction and donate a painting there.

Have looked at that, couldn't find any that were interested unfortunately. Want to keep their forums ad free...except for eBay.
