The Real Deal Offline Series: Stinking Thinking Costs Me Some Deals...

Hey Offliners,

I have a confession to make.

Until recently, I'd spent years avoiding any type of self-help books, guru's or training that even slightly mentioned anything about reprogramming the way I think.

Now, before you jump down my throat and point out the obvious, let me be honest and say that I was deathly afraid to let someone "in my head" so to speak.

Why?

Because on a subconscious level I knew that I had to keep my head screwed on right and I didn't want anyone messing around with my mindset.

Yes, even though I wasn't where I wanted to be, I didn't want to risk letting my guard down and being taken to the cleaners by some self-proclaimed self help guru.

But then things changed...

I started doing offline consulting and I noticed that there were times I would be with prospects and they would ask me why my prices were so low. There was even a time when a prospect told me that I was revealing too much in my proposals that I was sending out.

Unfortunately I didn't sign these clients who gave me these valuable insights. So, after losing out on thousands of dollars in monthly fees because clients would say they love me, but wouldn't hire me, I begin to wonder what was going on.

- Was I coming off too aggressive?
- Was I too laid back?
- Were my fees too low?
- Were my proposals too complex?

Well, needless to say, but when you start losing contracts that you just know that should've been closed, it will shake you up a little and my confidence begin to drop.

Thankfully, I recognized that I had a problem and needed help. That's when I begin to cyber stalk experienced offline warriors like Millard Grubb, Michael Hiles, Bayo and John Durham and I also bought several books by giants such as Alan Weiss and other consultants.

These guys all preach day in and day out about mindset, focus and taking action while offering your services at premium prices with confidence.

And as much as I resisted early on in my career, the message that those guys were preaching was exactly what I needed to hear to get to my next level. Now, I spend at least a couple hours per week fine-tuning my mindset by letting other more successful offliners poor their wisdom into my mind.

Hope this helps someone,

Chris Rivers

Thanks for the reaffirmation, I'm experiencing the same thing as I just signed my first offline client and the first thing he kept telling me about the price was is that all you charge for what your doing. I was completely floored as I thought the prices were very reasonable and didn't want to scare off potential clients with a higher price tag. The last couple of days I've been going back through and reevaluating my prices. While we're on the subject I would like to take the time to thank John Durham, Doc. Dan and the many others who have helped an introvert like myself to really start to come into my own with their inspirational and motivational posts and wso's.
