Think I might be on to something

So I noticed on the warrior classifieds that there are certain people you can pay to build mobile websites for around $50-75. Now suppose I start calling local businesses and selling them on a mobile site. Wouldn't that be possible to do? Just be the middleman?

Yes you can sell your mobile site for $297 and have someone else prepare the site for you, lets say for $50 and you pock-it the $247. Never have to make a mobile website. Go out and get more business rinse and repeat.

Of course. However, I'd recommend while you're doing that, you learn how to design these sites yourself.... or at least how to go in after and change some of the coding as needed. So, instead of "1 and done", you could put your customers on a "maintenance" plan, without having to look up (and pay) a person to do the changes for you as the needs arise.

Yes there is no problem in being the middleman which is exactly what I will be doing, in order to build up my business fast there is no way that I will be able to do everything it would just take up too much time, so at the moment if I focus on getting leads and closing the sale then I can let other people do seo, videos, submission, pr, programming etc.

You can learn everything but if you are trying to quit your day job it would just take up way too much time and I think you would get very frustrated.

    One step at a time.

    My favourite saying
"Take a leap of faith, You don't have to see the whole stair case, take one step at a time"

    Joe,

Keep in mind that few business owners will buy the notion of a mobile website. What they are really looking to buy is increased exposure for their business. In other words "sell the sizzle".

You should be well-versed in the branding and monetary benefits of a mobile website. You should also be prepared to show your clients how to effectively begin getting new customers and clients funneling through their mobile sites.

Another relatively recent development in this field are the "free" build your own mobile website resources that are popping up everywhere. You will need to differentiate yourself from these services and prove to clients how and why you can do a better job and yield more substantial results.

I don't necessarily agree with that you're saying here. I've been selling mobile sites for a few months now and I find that once you point out to a restaurant what their site looks like in it's current form on a mobile (like if it is terrible) and then show them the kind of mobile optimized site you can create, they understand the difference in usability and aesthetics.

The next step is to then explain to them how many people are searching for this business on mobile and that whatever that number is now, it is increasing by the day. Ask them how many people does the mobile site need to bring in over a year to make it worth it? 1 client a week etc. Tell them that by not having a proper site, people will just go to the next restaurant etc. They don't have patience or loyalty to a new business they are exploring.

Explain that their current customers aren't likely the ones to be exploring their business, it's the potentially new customers they are losing before they even give them a chance... etc

I wouldn't worry about the self-build websites, they are not really competition for someone you are doing offline with....

  • I echo some of the comments here, sell the sizzle, not the steak. Also do some research. In this case you must be a sales person, and work that angle.
