Hi guys,

What are your methods for good mobile seo?

Do you use the normal meta data, tags etc and where do you submit when the mobile site is complete?

Are there specific directories or specific steps to follow that anyone can recommend?

Thanks guys for your input

Regards

Vince

Appropriate Keywords in Headlines and Tex

Consumers use mobile for more focused and task-oriented searches (i.e. for a specific location or product). This is different from how most people search from a desktop computer. By understanding consumer behavior, brands can anticipate queries and incorporate key search terms into page text, increasing detection from search engines.

Relevant Page Titles and Accurate Page Descriptions

Page titles are one of the first factors mobile browsers use to determine where a page will show in results. Similar to traditional SEO, it is important that these titles reflect the terms that people use to search, increasing the likelihood that the site will appear relevant and receive better page rankings.

    Outbound Links

Despite less real estate associated with mobile screens, incorporating outbound links to relevant sources provides a more complete user experience and associates the mobile site with other trusted brands.

5 quick tips to make sure your site is mobile SEO and user friendly:

    1. Create two new style sheets

    2. Make your site as small and simple as possible.

    3. Don't use Flash.

    4. Create a mobile sitemap.

    5. Claim your place page.

If you see the post that willr mentioned I wrote an exhaustive post with source links back to google why basically mobile seo is actually a waste of your time if your going about it the traditional way! Lol

if your mobile site is your only exposure on the web than yeah it makes sense to use traditional SEO tactics but if your redirecting to your mobile site from your main site than you should really concentrate on SEO'ing your main site...

linkassistant above does have some good pointers on his article

One of the tings I've done, is link their Google Paces Page to the "Find Us" section on the mobile site.

Just now starting to learn about mobile directories.

    Good question!

I personally think linking to the Google places page from your clients mobile site is a bad idea!

How does your client feel about having all his competitors listed at that bottom of that Google Places page?

ie look at the bottom of that google place page and the "Related Places" section... its all other business that are similar to there's...

Just link directly to the address with a link to the mobile version of google maps - all the information on the google places page should be on the mobile site anyway...

Mobile SEO is really a challenge in SEO, as in today's scenario mobiles are being the basic need of people. Mobile SEO is little bit different than SEO as in mobile SEO content should be precise, Metatags are properly optimised and keywords are generally customer oriented. Besides these site-map will really help a lot for easy navigation.
