Potential offline client...Please help

This potential client is a small handbag retail store in a city population of about 250,000k. *The metropolitan area is about 500,000k. *I'm in the U.S.

They want an ecommerce website and at this time they do not even have a website. *Per their opinion they want to use Open Cart but are willing to listen to other options.

The cost will be a deciding factor therefore they prefer an open source software. *Is there a better option?

They have used Groupon before so I think I could get them on extras like FB fanpage, hosting, SMS, List building and I might show up with a QR code for their store window if I can come up with a cool idea for what the code will do.

I won't waste time asking how much to charge but anyone have a recommendation on a general plan of action?

Can someone recommend a SMS service they prefer to use.

Thanks in advance for anyone's time.

Open cart is a good solution and really easy to use. I would say it would be ideal for the type of store.

It's strange how they have no website yet know about open cart? This could be a really good deal for you....the possibility of upsells are enormous!

    Best of luck,
    Scott

Just a thought on the QR code.... You could redirect them to a mobile version of their standard website.....or an opt in page to build a list for discounts, offers etc.

In terms of a plan of action, I would come up with a few shopping cart solutions (you can find them on google) and sit down with the client and find out what they're goals are for website, how they can Market it, maybe talk some seo services or google places etc and then crack on with overdelivering an awesome website...it's bound to go down well if you overdeliver!

Twilio and OpenVBX are meant to be good, easy to use and a good place to start.

    Hope this helps,
    Scott.

I've been researching carts for a client this week and while he's leaning towards WP e-commerce plugin, I've looked at Big Commerce from Interspire and it looks like an incredible hosted solution with tons of great features.

    Cheers,

    Steve

Yes I also like big commerce and is mobile ready so this is a great plus.

They also have a lot of training on how to get the most from your ecommerce which is worth a free account just to learn.

If you do scan of this QR Code you go direct to their mobile version of Pandore

    Great system
