SMS and barcodes

Hey Everyone, I am interested in knowing of you can incorporate a barcode in a sms message? It seems like you might be able to for certain carriers but I have not come across anyone explaining this. If so please let me know additionally, what are some alternatives? Maybe a link to the barcode pic?

I was hoping there was an easy solution so the end recipient did not have to use the internet to access the barcode. I would want to use it for a scannable coupon.

    I don't think you can do it with standard SMS, but you could attach the barcode as a picture file to an MMS message and send it out that way. Sending MMS (instead of SMS) varies by text messaging provider, but many of them have it as an option.

    i think even if you send the picture of the bar code on MMS, the reader might have a difficulty reading it, maybe it depends on the image quality, and of the display quality of the mobile unit.

      send a link in the sms message that points to a mobile site or regular website that contains the barcode.

      How would the phone see to read the barcode - when it is in the phone?

        The purpose of a QR code is for the phone to scan it, not trying to sho sho your idea, any idea is great but the basic premise for coding is the ease of someone scanning it to go to a website, facebook like page, store site etc etc etc.

      A barcode would have to be done through a link or MMS! The MMS would have a bigger reach as typically only smartphones would be able see the link. What are you using the barcode for? There might be other ways around it.
