Adword's keyword tool estimates discouraging!

I used Adword's keyword traffic and daily costs estimator and WOW it doesn't give encouraging estimates. The daily costs for the estimated clicks seems way to expensive. 2-3 clicks per day with an estimated $25 per day spend!

Am I missing something?

My goal is to get his "ac repair and ac service" business in the top spots organically and in places but these numbers seem aweful for the amount of work and the fee I would need to charge.

Any ideas? Maybe I'm using the tool incorrectly.

Yes it could well be that's the going price if other 'big' companies are working with PPC. Have you tried SpyFu or PPCSpy - you'll find them good at analysing ppc. It may also be that there's a few other things they could do from a different angle that may help business, have you secured their Google Places spot or a Facebook fanpage, what about an email list swap with an endorsement from one of their existing clients to their business clients? This endorsement/referral approach can work really well!

I don't know some times how they estimate and pay. I have gone after "big paying niches" like auto insurance and get just 40 cent per click avarege. I have also go for low paying keywords like golf swing and get the same 40 cents per click. It is kind of weird

Adwords is a competitive system meaning someone can make a higher CTR ad and pay cheaper prices than whats listed. I think it's perry marshall that says Adwords is nearly a zero-sum system right now but if you are the 800-Guerrilla for that keyword, you do stand a chance.

I do not use this as a way to sell adwords services tho. The sell is in the fact I can test a million different things faster than any one of their competitors for under a $100 and help them with that business advantage to gain customers.

It's actually very strange because when people know I can use Adwords to beat a competitor's headline, offer, call to action, their mind sort of goes....well if I dont hire this guy, he is going to my competitor and offering him the same thing. Had a guy tell me that the other day.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

      Thanks for all your answers.

When I use the free Google keyowrd tool, it shows 720 local searches for keyword + city. Typically you can expect to get 75% of the clicks if you are #1 so the volume of traffic wouldn't be terrible.

I am doing the organic SEO and he is now dancing between bottom of first page and top of second. I guess we'll see how much traffic he gets when we get him to the top. I was using the Adwords tool to get an idea of the volume for that keyword. I am also working on his places page.

From what I understand, fewer people click on the Google ads than the organic. I would also assume more would click on the places listings since they are so prominent.

  • When in comes to local search keyword analysis, I would not trust Google at all.

You see... when Google introduced its Google suggestor tool it started to force the searches to a certain phrase, however, Google's Geo location technology makes the adwords keyword tool totally unreliable, at least for me.

If I research for the "laundromat" in phrase mode I get 246K searches.

Now, if I use market samurai and dump 9366 cities that account for 95% of USA Population + laundromat I get 155k. This leads me to believe that 91K searches where conducted with out using the local modifier because people already knows that Google will produce relevant local results.

      Makes perfect sense.

AC repair in my city is very competitive and will take a lot of work to get great ranking in both organic and places. My fear is that the results will not produce enough traffic to justify the monthly fee I charge.

I wouldn't think that ac repair + city would be so competitive if it didn't produce results right?

Typically IMers are looking for high search volume and low competition. Not the other way around!

I was pretty impressed by the tool. Some of their keywords get fairly low quantities of results, but up to 20% ctr

To be honest, ad word keyword tool is very inaccurate ! One keyword i went for it said 80,000 search's monthly. I got to first and second result it only brings in about 2 clicks a month.

I suggest a long-tail keyword strategy. I have a local HVAC client I've done well ranking for the short and long-tail keywords. I started with the long-tails to get traction and then continued on and off page SEO. Over time, we've moved up nicely.

I also used the Local Ninja plugin I got as a WSO a while back to rank for the 50+ suburbs, which was very easy and I am ranking on page one for a huge number of HVAC related terms. The client is getting more calls from the suburban rankings than the main city. When I sold the program, I told him I'd get them traffic, leads and phone calls, not rankings. They're real happy and my workload is a fraction of what it was when I was concentrating on the city.

Check out the WSO at http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...eady-made.html.

It's up to $67 and is well worth it.
