7 Steps How to Get Business Owners to Come to You

Hey Warriors,

This community has helped me out a lot when i was just getting started out
internet marketing, so I wanted to give back a little.

Here is a 7 step guide to get business owners to contact you instead of wasting a lot of time, money, energy, and effort chasing down business owners.

Step 1:

Find a Local Charity in your Area.
It could be a variety of charities: animal shelter, a homeless shelter, a soup kitchen, a church, any type of kid's organizations.
Go online and do a search of your local area.

Step2:

Assist the Charity. The key is you are not going to charge a consulting fee.
You will simply offer your marketing expertise. You are going to make a lot
more after you get the owner's business cards.

Step3:

Say this to your Charity: "Look, I want to help raise money. I
want to do some fundraising with the charity, and here's what I do. I'm an
internet marketing expert. I help businesses understand the power of the
internet and how they can utilize the internet to better market their business."
Setup a 2 hour internet marketing work shop. Just the "Basics."
Cover the different ways local business owners can harness the power
of the internet: Social Media, SEO,Blogs, Forums, Videos, Podcasts, Autoresponders, Craigslist, Groupon, etc...
The charity will invite local business owners and charge either $47 or $97 dollars for the work shop.

Step 4:

Collect The business owners business cards:
Put a bowl in front of the room and say you are going to give away a
grand prize at the end of the presentation. At the end of the presentation there's going to be a $1000 giveaway, or whatever the price is, a $250 giveaway", so what they do is they all put their business cards in. You gather all their business cards and then you have a grand prize. Let's say you're going to give a one hour consultation. Your time is worth, let's say $250 an hour. So you're going to give a one hour consultation of $250 value, that's the grand prize. Somebody's going to win that in the crowd. It's only an hour of your time, it's not like you're physically handing somebody $250, but you're attracting people to want to put their business card in.

Step 5:
Create an envelope for the Grand Prize and say that you want everybody to leave here with a prize,so you will be having a free 15 minute consultation with you the expert. This plants the seed that allows you to call them in a couple of days.

Step 6:
Collect all the data and statistic and get a press release written for how much money you helped a charity raise.

Step 7:
Collect checks and be happy that you dont have to work a 9-5 job

Enjoy...

Good advice Sander! Workshops and mini-seminars can be a great way to drive new business-- especially if you can fill the room! I like the spin on having a charity get the businesses there. I wonder how willing they would actually be to do that though. I guess it just takes finding the right one to partner with! Kudos on this post!

    AWESOME publicity suggestion Sander

If the press release is written *clever* enough the attention that it would get could easily generate 500 times the profit the press release cost to write!!

    Stop it Sander!

You're giving away one of my killer strategies.

Ok...all kidding aside. This is a proven powerful lead generation strategy that not only gets you clients, but generates a ton of good will in your local community.

If you're time rich and cash poor, then you should start this strategy TODAY! Heck, even if you have cash for more traditional marketing strategies, you should still be implementing this strategy in your offline business.

    Thanks,

    um... step 3a.

    Actually have a presentation...

Some folks have never had to stand up and give a presentation before an audience. This can be daunting, to down right terrifying.

I have had to make presentations, many times, but generally I had undergrads or interns prepping for me, and helping create presentations. My biggest worry was, is my French/German/Italian/Norse good enough to pull this off?

I can tell you that standing in front of 75 diplomats to explain technical studies on magnetic interference patterns, particulate densities, and particle accelerators, is difficult enough without having to worry that you're insulting someone's ancestry with a mispronounced proper pronoun.

Put some real thought into your presentation, explain the real reason your services help businesses (have examples of offline materials to pass out) go into details only if someone asks, and yes, allow questions, and answer them honestly.

Use a MindMap, create an outline, include all of your services and show simple examples of a few that they may be able to implement themselves.

If your presentation shows off the real WOW factor of your business, you will not have just one or two new clients, you'll actually have ONLY one or two who WONT be calling you.

What do you think about this twist?

Rather than announce the winner, tell them they will be contacted the next day (bla bla) to confirm the winner of the $250 consulting prize.

Then...the next day call each once and congratulate them and set up the meeting. Each client will feel special, and rather than 1 winner and 9 loosers you have 10 happy (potential) clients.

I realize you will have to give away some free consulting time to the "winners", but that is a good foot in the door!

    Thanks

What a great post, and this sounds like a strategy that really could work! I am in need to start earning money ASAP and have been considering venturing to local businesses offering web services and mainly mobile websites. This sounds like a great tactic to first off provide a charity shop with a mobile site to put into a portfolio site which can showcase my services. The charity event/seminar/talk sounds like a great idea. Surely local businesses would be intrigued enough to attend to find out what they can do more in marketing, and also wouldn't mind paying a fee for the charity to benefit from. Furthermore this kind of thing could easily make the local press for further exposure.

My car tax is due by the end of the month and I need to really step up my exploits to make money instantly! This could very well be the foot in the door I need.

Thanks so much for sharing this strategy with us! Would be great if you could post more details about your Charity funnel... Have been waiting for more of your posts I LOVE THE IDEA! Some questions regarding my example below. Example: My offer is to do a 2 hour seminar for local businesses. The value of the presentation is $997, the charity offer it for $97. The charity invite the businesses to attend. I collect the payments, and follow up with the businesses. Charity will receive 60% of the total collected funds. I hold the seminar at their location or near by. Do you think it would be OK have 40/60 revenue split with the charity? Do I need to consider commissions to charity if some of the businesses want more of my services? Is it hard for charities to get businesses attend to such a seminar? Is there need for marketing material, letters, invitations to prepare for the charity, to makes it easier for them to make the invitations? What is the best way to sell the charities on the whole idea? How are you going with the WSO? Sole Thanks again!

It's not a one size fits all type of deal. Go talk to a charity and adjust what you do based on their feedback.

As you do more of these types of events you'll learn what works for you and what doesn't.

The OP can only chart the course. You need to sail it.

Smart move of using local charity organisation as your sample in future use. It usually have more powerful persuasive compare to other small companies.

I try to look for local charities companies as well but yet most of it been sponsor and support by competitors.
    Any other option?
