Utilizing Craigslist Sales Ads

This has probably been shared already, but I thought I would pass this on anyways because it is so simple, and we tend to discount the simple things... I recently had some luck finding desperate offline companies that are VERY open to hearing about consulting and lead generation services. I searched through my local sales/biz development section and found a number of ads like this:

We are a roofing, siding and window company looking for help in generating leads for our sales team. You must have your own transporation and must be able to speak to the public in a professional manner and dress appropriately.

You do not have to make the sale, all you have to do is generate the lead. If we confirm the appointment, you are paid whether we close the deal or not.

Unlimited earning potential.

Contact Erica at xxx-xxx-xxxx for more details.

If you are granted an interview, please dress accordingly!

I have been seeing more and more of these ads and I had luck with one so far and I'm planning on pursuing this lead strategy some more. I typically call the name number listed and ask for them as if I was interested in the job. I then pitch my services to see if they would consider holding off on hiring an employee, and instead consider contracting with an online lead generation specialist (myself;-) This particular ad was offering to pay whomever they hire $70 per lead generated. This gives you some good intel when you approach them to pitch lead generation (or other services)and how to price (based on what they are willing to pay an employee).

Like everything else, its a number's game, but I think its definitely worth pursuing...

Has anyone else tried this, or any variation of this with success?

Thanks,

Mike G

I was just trolling CL myself and saw a couple ads just like the one you refer to above.

I am going to call them right now and try your approach.

    Thanks!

I make sure not to reply directly to the CL address as they can get annoyed and it is against TOS.

It's better to find the website and use the contact form or simply call the number in the ad.

Before you spend your valuable time on Craigslist, read this post:

Pay particular attention to post #9 and all those following.

Save yourself from the insanity of Craigslist, unless you're looking for a used couch or computer monitor.

Thanks, I read that post and most of that thread. I do agree that CL can bring out the "yard sale" mentality, and can be a chore to uncover quality prospects when you're approaching them cold to pitch your services from THEIR ad they list in the services section (for their services).

However, that's different from contacting a company in the sales jobs section ALREADY telling you they WANT someone to HELP them generate LEADS and are specifically looking for salespeople to generate the leads. A far easier situation in which to approach them IMO.

I've used CL in a variety of campaigns. Some work. Some don't.

You have to think about what people are looking for when they come to CL.

This past year had great success for home improvement campaigns, but previous year one for a custom bunk bed campaign didn't do as well.

More people were looking for yard sale prices as was mentioned.

Nevertheless, you can't ignore the traffic on this site. Also, businesses are raising their hands asking for help here. Still a great source of leads.
