Mobile Websites - More *PROOF* for Business Owners

When selling the idea of mobile websites, there is nothing like REAL data to back up your argument.

If a business you are approaching has Google Analytics set up on their main website, you can easily find out the EXACT percentage of visitors to their website that are using mobile devices. This can be a great way to support your argument as to why that business needs a mobile optimized version of their website.

You can see in the screenshot above it is as simple as clicking
on the 'Visitors' tab and then selecting the 'Mobile Devices' option.

In this example 10.62% of the total visitors to that website are using a mobile device. That equates to more than 1 in every 10 visitors. This number is going to be bigger for some businesses and smaller for others but more often than not it will be around this figure or higher for local service type businesses.

If the real life data is there... use it! It sure makes selling a whole lot easier.

They can't argue with their own stats!

Great idea always good to have as much info as possible on the business your going to. If you show that you know what they do and how their business works you will sell more.

Ps non smartphones that don't support JavaScript won't get picked up using google analytics unless you use googles ga.php script... Can be bit tricky to embed/implement it if your not familiar with php since the instructions are a little confusing especially so if your trying to do it on wordpress or similar

so to implement this we would need to obviously have the analytics on thier site from before... so they would have to be our clients from before.

Wouldn't be helpful for new clients would it?

But still a good damn idea to show people.... and this is all free right?

The business does need to have Google Analytics running on their site in order to show them these statistics. Having said that is does NOT mean they have to be a previous client of yours. If you approach a business and they are still unsure about whether or not they really need a mobile site, you could offer to setup Google Analytics on their website for free (doesn't take more than 5 -10 minutes to implement) and let it run for 2-3 weeks and then go back and show them the statistics.

As I said earlier, if it is a local service type business then more likely than not you are going to find a nice percentage of their traffic is coming from mobile devices. Once you can show them the REAL statistics with their own website there is no way they can say they don't need a mobile site. The truth will be staring them right in the face.

... and yes, Google Analytics is totally free to use.

Anyone notice that Weebly built websites automatically produce mobile versions of site. I'm not an expert at all in mobile web design and I notice it's a big topic of conversation. To me the Weebly rendered mobile site on my smartphone looked pretty good. Comments?
