Email Service For Excel File Of Emails - I Have A Big Problem

Just picked up a new client, opening 6 stores in a week (seasonal business).

I took his Excel file of 5k+ emails (no names, just emails) he accumulated via hand-filled cards last year, and tried to have them imported into my email list company to mail out a mailing to this list indicating where the store locations are this year.

Apparently, I didn't read the fine print very well ... where they said I could import a list only if there were corresponding ip addresses for each email address. My mistake.

This list, being generated from filled-in cards, obviously doesn't fit the bill.

Can anyone recommend a mailing service that would mail to this Excel list?

(A double opt-in to confirm would be fine)

Thanks

You can use Aweber to do this. They are one of the better autoresponder services in the industry and I have been using them happily for the last 5 years. Here is a video tutorial on their website:

How Do I Import a List of Subscribers? :: AWeber Knowledge Base

As you have mentioned, your subscribers WILL need to reconfirm to be on your list. This is now an industry standard and is done so that the autoresponder company can build an audit trail for each subscriber to help improve the deliverability rate.

    Go with campaign monitor.

You can import them without the confirmation ... Some common questions about permission - Campaign Monitor

You can white label them and mark it up (without a huge upfront spend)...

They have an API so integrating customers, etc is cake.

Their deliverability is MUCH better than Aweber, much more feature-rich and just better (from my experience) all around.

I still have some lists in aweber, when I get around to it I'm moving everything over to CM, and soon.

They can't be too serious about things if they allow people to upload lists of contacts without having them re-confirm.

There is a reason why this is an industry standard practice now. It's not just to annoy people it is there to protect the deliverability rates of these companies. A company that allows people to just upload lists of random email addresses with no proof or reconfirmation is not acting in the best interest of all their customers.

    Yeah,

Clients include Facebook, Ebay, Twitter, 37 Signals, Intel...

    They're just messin' around

They have the technology in place to tell. Opens, bounce rates and spam complaints make it obvious, you try it once they'll catch it immediately and make sure you can't do it again.

iContact should allow you to import the list. I do the same thing with offline clients where the customers fill out a card asking to be put on their list. If they got a random double opt confirmation email a year later I doubt very many of them would actually confirm.

      Thanks all, for your suggestions.

I checked them all out, all seemed like they would do the trick.

I chose the last option, iContact ... I was told that since I had "asked nicely" if it was ok to import a list, it was ok.

      Bought the $50/mo 5k package.

Sent out all on my list, put a good opt-out not at the top of the email ... had very low opt-out rate, 6 complaints out of 4987 emails.

Overall, I was happy. I may ultimately import this "clean" list into my normal Imnica account to save money.

      Thanks again.
