google places verification

Hi there, some businesses have there Gp listings on the 1st page of google but are "business owner" and not verified yet can be above some that are verified, why is this?

Also what are the advantages of having your business verified or not having it verified if the non verified are still on the 1st page, Regards, Mick.

    those that I have seen that aren't verified but with good rankings typically have mroe reviews or better star rankings.

    It's still an ongoing process, I find that unverified listings that are still ranking have no real competition. Optimized rankings with quality reviews and lots of backlinks will outrank all other listings, verified or not.
