Getting an address - alternative to UPS

Hi,

I am trying to get my client a "virtual" postal address - NOT a PO Box. UPS want $300 for 6 months for a business service that offers this facility. It has to be a business address since Google will send his Maps Postcard to the business. Does anyone know an alternative to UPS - must be an address not a PO Box. This is in Boston USA.

Thanks for any help.

Si

I used to have a small box with the UPS store (formerly Mail Boxes Etc...) and maybe prices are higher in bigger cities, but I think I only paid $20/month for mine.

Have you searched for "mailbox service boston" and looked at any UPS alternatives? There are at least a few independent "mailbox" businesses in my town and I'm sure a large city would have quite a few.

Yep MailBoxes Etc is UPS. Doing a search on "mailbox service boston" has revealed a possible alternative - thanks Steve - I had previously searched on "ups mailbox alternative" !

MailBoxes Etc. was much cheaper in my neighborhood. Also, something to consider is trying to contact someone on craigslist who will leas theirs out of they've gotten into a long contract they can't get out of (if you only need it for a short period).

Just an aside to consider: If getting business credit is one of your goals, you shouldn't use the UPS option. One of the things creditors look at is whether or not there is a land line and if the land line matches the address given. This is tough to do with a UPS box. I would look at the link provided by Voasi above. I looked through it and a virtual office WITH a receptionist would run about $125 per month. That's not bad at all. My partners and I were looking for an option and I think Voasi has just provided it.

I think this was a spam post but since this thread got bumped I need to make this point:

The info in this thread is out of date.

DO NOT USE UPS STORE OR MAILBOXES ETC TYPE ADDRESSES FOR GOOGLE PLUS LOCAL.

It is such a huge footprint these days, you're just asking for google to track you down and SPANK you.

Virtual mailboxes can still work, but in order for them to work, you need to choose a virtual mailbox provider that also provides real office space for lease, so google can't tell whether you are renting a solo mailbox, or a full office.

Also, stay away from national chains, better to use providers that only offer services in one or a few cities, to avoid a footprint that is easy to follow.

That's awesome advice. I have found virtual space for as little as $20 / month. They were only offering mail service for that fee, but they DID have office space available on a pay-as-you-go basis. This was a single office building, not a chain, close to downtown, so there was really no way for Google to point to it and call it an illegitimate business location.

Now I haven't tried this, but I would imagine commercial REALTORs would be a good resource when looking for office space on the cheap. They'd probably have the connections to know if a commercial real estate owner would be willing to sell mail service.
