Wow GOOGLE BUYS ZAGAT, Yelp Might Need Some Help!
Wow...I don't know if anyone else actively follows Google's acquisitions, but this one should have MASSIVE offline "consequences" for us in my opinion. Yelp has been getting a lot of heat lately for their filtering algorithm, reviews not sticking, etc.
I believe they will roll this out with their new Deals platform in the Local scene. Looks like a massive Global/Local review-driven marketing platform is certainly on the way here. Also a few months ago I mentioned Google Talkbin rolling out here on the West coast and Pacific NW areas, this will allow Google to tie everything into mobile easily
They are brilliant. Let these companies put in the "grunt" work, and then just buy them and expand them/integrate them into their current local platform.
Both Yelp and OpenTable will need to watch this one closely, what do you all think about the implications on this Zagat deal?
