What will happen to our Facebook Pages after Oct 1st ?

It will display a security error or facebook will not display the content if you are framing another webpage (is my understanding).

Good opportunity for someone to jump on re providing hosted facebook pages.

So all mine and my clients Facebook Pages will no longer display, are you sure this is correct? If so this is a big pain in the A...

And Yes, I agree there would be an opportunity here with assist for facebook pages hosting.

Sorry this is incorrect! I have been a Facebook developer for over 2 years now and what they are changing to is SSL canvas and page tab apps. Your Facebook 'fan pages' should not require SSL as they are hosted on Facebook.

I hope I clarified that well enough, but if you think I am not understanding the issue, just let me know. Thanks!

Perhaps I should have may my comment a bit clearer. What I was refering to is my hosted html and Wordpress pages as iframe on a Facebook page.

Oh, I see! Yeah that most likely will require SSL for iframed based page apps. If you were using the Static FBML it should not require it, but I could be wrong!

If you are using one of the most common apps 'Static HTML iFrame' or 'Static HTML Express' app tabs, you should be fine... the APP that creates those pages is hosted on an SSL platform.

Yes, it's a pain in the Butt. I've only recently setup several pages for myself and my clients using a Wordpress FB Theme (Warrior WSO) and now I'm not sure what to do.

This is really statring to freak me out. I have done a little research on buying SSL certificate and the prices are all over the place. Some ssl certs start at $10 and go right up tp $700 per year.
On top of all that, one has to learn how to install all this crap on the sever, or ask my host provider to do it for a price.
I have been using Wordpress for all mine and my clients Facebook pages. I have them all placed on one dedicated Domain with a Sub-Domain for each different business page.
Somewhere I read that I need a "Wildcard SSL" so I checked out the pricing and found that they're much more expensive.
Then I found an article that said that Shared SSL does not work good with Wordpress.
HELP!!

Realistically, you can get 1 domain with 1 ip address mapped to your SSL certificates. So that includes all the subdomains you want, and because they're on Facebook, you can easily stick all your stuff onto client1.myfbhosting.co*m, client2.myfbhosting, client3.myfbhosting, etc. applied innovations has some good pricing on SSLs. And they're really helpful: Windows Hosting, Windows VPS Hosting and Dedicated Servers

One SSL cerificate will cover One domain name on private IP. It will cover all folders/pages on that domain, but it will not apply to subdomains. Just saying :-)

You need to get a wild-card SSL certificate. Like this one: SSL Wildcard Certificate - Multiple Subdomain SSL Solution | Comodo - This one is way too expensive and I personally wouldn't buy it, but you get the point.

You might have to create separate page for each business instead of creating subdomains for everyone of them. in this case, all you need is ONE SSL cert for that domain where your fan pages are located.

If you guys are running any fan pages using WordPress - either with a theme or plugins, I recently wrote a free plugin to help you test your pages to make sure that they're completely secured.

Basically, it'll check all the content on the page to make sure your css, scripts, images and forms are sourced via SSL. You can find it here:
wordpress[dot]org/extend/plugins/wordpress-https-test/

I'd also suggest loading up a great plugin, WordPress HTTPS - it works extremely well for using WordPress on shared SSL (yes, you CAN do it!) and for enforcing SSL for all your content on either shared or dedicated SSL. I've tested this on several dedicated and shared sites and it works beautifully.

Zoro, it's actually not hard to migrate a WordPress site, it just takes some caution and a little planning .

I've done it a few times, so here's a real quick primer:
1. First, you'd need to download your database from your phpMyAdmin console and save that on your system.
2. FTP into your account and download the entire site.
3. On your new host, create your site without using the instant site scripts. Also create a new mySQL database.
4. In your backup files, edit the wp-config.php file and insert the new database address, user and password.
5. In your new phpMyAdmin panel, import the database backup you downloaded from the old site.
6. FTP in, upload your backed up site.
7. Switch the DNS pointers on your domain name and hold your breath.
In about 24-48 hours, you'll see if your site is set up correctly, and in most cases it will be. The only caveat is that if you have plugins that use file paths in the options, chances are you'll have to reconfigure those because they'll be using the old account's info.

The important thing is to not cancel the old account until the new one is migrated. If you have problems, you can always point back to the old account.

I secure my own WordPress Theme's Facebook page content using a very simple but Free service, and it took literally 5 to 10 minutes to set up.

This method involves a Free service provided at Social-Server.com

It is very easy to use - I wrote some instructions on how to use it in another thread here on the WF - just do a search on here on the WF for "Facebook Emergency Action" and you'll find it...

I'm not affiliated with the free service, but I can say it really worked for me, and I'm sure for those that need to convert lots of Fanpage tab apps to secure, then this is going to be the quickest, easiest, and most cost effective way to do it.

Problem will be with any CUSTOM built HTML or WP pages on you fanpage. A popup will appear asking the user if they want to look at your Unsecured Pages.

I don't think that is right. As far as I'm concered nothing has changed.

I have changed a few pages over to secure webspace.

But the ones I haven't are still working totally fine without secure webspace.

Yes, you are quite right ... so far nothing has happend to my exsisting unsecured pages either, they're all working fine. But what I said ealier is what I read over on the Facebooks App Developers page.
Who knows what's going on with Facebook. With all the changes lately it's becoming a real pain in the @!!#%$?.
