I recently decided to hop on the van wagon & start offering SMS marketing services to local business. I've contacted restaurants owners before, but I noticed I would have to make many calls (even during early business hours) just to get a hold of the owner.

So here's my question to you guys. Do you know of a good local business niche where the store owners/managers are easy to get a hold of?

Thanks

By far the businesses that are easiest to get a hold of the owners are contracting type businesses. Think roofers, landscapers, anything in that type of niche. Many times the business phone number will be their cell phone numbers and they will be the ones who answer the phone.

easy to get a hold of does not always equal easy to sell to...

As Ben said, contractors might be easier to reach but that doesn't mean that your text message service will help grow their business.

Personally I would choose your market and then see if your market wants what you have to offer (and if not, switch your product, not your market).

Dude, you are just guessing...start offering them whatever you think fits best and then you come back here and let us know.

It's not that I am not trying to be helpful -- it's just that nobody knows the exact answer to your question unless they have tried that exact thing.

My best guess...carpenters, painters and the like don't care much about mobile sites (it's not the type of thing that is typically looked at from a mobile phone) - try locksmiths and tow truck companies and....

        ....

It's all about trial and error. Test, test, test. Sometimes you will get a combo that works right out of the gate, and other times you will need to revise your funnel & sales pitch mulitple times before you start making headway.

That's a great point. There's an old adage in sales: the harder the prospect is to get to, the easier the sale.

I've sold hundreds of Restaurant Owners with my various Advertising Projects. These biz people NEED "Mobile Sites" and RMS....and....they HAVE money to spend for these.

The HARDEST part of "working" the Restaurant Niche is...."Finding the owner IN!"

The hours I try contacting owners is 8:30am-11am and 1pm-4pm.

        If the owner is not in when I come calling....I ask the person I'm talking to 3 questions;
        1) What COLOR is his vehicle
        2) WHERE does he park
        3) Any idea WHEN he'll be in

So...when I'm cruising around town trying to "catch" other owners IN...I run by and see if his vehicle is there. If it is, I park and run in.

phone appointments per week. This requires 10 postcards per day(50/week) and it takes about 1 minute to search info and hand write the addy on each of my cards mailed whenever I want to tap "into the greed glands" of a restauranteur. Happy searching
What kind of postcards are you using? Care to share how you write your contents? Thanks!

You left out the part about parking behind the owners vehicle thereby blocking them in until they hand you a check, yes? :p

          great questions to ask also!
