Go to the ap store for your phone and down load a QR code scanner. They're free. All smart phones with a camera can scan QR codes.

There are several QR code generators on the web where you can create a QR code for free. Just Google "QR code generator".

Hmmm this is very interesting. I have never seen someone use one to be honest. Good to see some stats backing it up.

I might just skip straight to Augmented Reality

Yep, QR codes come in handy alright.
14 Million Americans Scanned QR Codes on their Mobile Phones in June 2011 - comScore, Inc
This is basically the same article but it has more details, including a table organizing those who scanned according to age, income brackets, gender, etc. very useful stuff to consider when choosing target demographics and executing campaigns.

This is something that has more and more become part of the norm and it will only continue. One thing I think we all know by now is that no matter the change in technology, people will never 'eschew the new', they embrace it, at least to be competitive or to appear savvy. It's become a new way of beating your chest in an urban jungle where technology owns all.

The augmented reality concept is a very interesting use for QR Codes... not sure how many people know what that is, but I first heard about Augmented reality several years ago and the way it was described was like some type of 3d alternate reality!

Little did I know at the time the guy was just talking about QR Codes on products and how you can scan them to bring up interesting and fun or cool things...

Little do most people NOW know that QR Codes are only just the beginning.

I predict that we will eventually be able to look "through" our phones into the world and instantly see all kinds of things that were not there before... all triggered by QR Codes (probably RFID tags in the future) that "trigger" these alternate things to appear in the "alternate" reality that is our world.

Of course I may just be too ahead of my time.. or even crazy.. LOL who knows?

I've been seeing them everywhere since I started looking just a couple months back. I even saw one on the back of a ketchup bottle, along with an SMS pitch. It's coming and it's gonna be big. Think about how it was when the bar codes first came out, if you remember that far back. Or how long it was from the first time you saw a website on an ad until they were so commonplace that they started dropping the http: part. Maybe 6 months in 1995? Anyway, I see them on the doors to small businesses, in magazines and on ketchup bottles so it's not going to be long.

QR Codes are not yet being promoted much in my country - Australia. But from all the reports around the world I think this is going to be huge.

I think that part of the allure of the QR code is that you feel like you're being let in on a secret. Sometimes I scan them because I know that I will be getting a deal or a coupon or a discount. It's always fun to feel like you're in on a secret or you're getting something that other people don't have.

I've had QR codes printed out on business cards to hand out at networking events. It let's people know that you're following the marketing trends.
