How Offset Bad Reviews of Offline Biz?

A client has received bad online reviews of his offline service biz. We suspect a disgruntled ex-employee. It is hurting his biz as potential customers have mentioned them. Is there a way to negate or offset such bad online reviews for offline businesses?

thank you

What you need to research is Online Reputation Management. The short version of the strategy is you sell a system to your prospect/customer where you entice happy customers to review the company. Bribing customers for reviews will get you in trouble with the FTC.

    Hope this helps.

Where are the bad reviews? His Google Places page? Yelp? Other websites?

How many bad reviews are we talking about here?

Need a little more info before I can offer more help.

Why do you think it's a disgruntled employee? How many bad reviews were posted and on what sites? If it's only one, move on and try to get plenty of good reviews to offset the negative one. Everyone gets a negative review at some point. On the other hand, if this is pervasive problem obviously you'll need to treat more aggressively.

Depends on where the review was placed.

I've had VERY good luck "disputing" bad reviews with the site it is placed on. Tell them why you don't believe it to be legit and have the info to back it up. Often it will get removed temporarily until they check with the reviewer who then has to back up their claims and prove the issue and that they were a client in order to keep the review up.

An ex-employee does this crap all the time, I've dealt with it. But when they can't show proof they say the heck with it.

Some sites allow you to pick your top reviews, pushing the bad review down.

You can also go the route of placing new good reviews, using different IP's.

      etc...

Take a look at the way the particular review site handles disputes and your options.
