Customer appt for ecommerce site - what questions to ask

I have an appointment with a small local store who's looking for an ecommerce site to go with it. I've sold and built regular websites and built ecommerce sites for myself, but never an ecommerce site for a customer.

From a previous thread, it looks like I have a few options with what platform to use...but...what kind of questions should I ask the client beforehand?


The ones I'm thinking of are...


1. Are you looking for a monthly payment solution or to purchase and host the entire site yourself?


2. How many products do you sell?


3. Will you be entering all of the products or will we be doing this?


4. What form of payments will you accept (Paypal, Google Checkout, etc.).


What other details would be necessary that I may be missing?

    are you gong to or have a CC processor? if not, then you will need one otherwise you are stuck with just accepting paypal, google checkout ect.

    do you want to have an affiliate program? (AND WHY YOU SHOULD)

    Do you have complex products (ie one that have alot of "options" (think building a custom computer))?

    Are these digital delivered products or just physical ones?

    Really there are a ton of questions and a TON of crappy and really good solutions out there. I spent a TON of time looking at carts and you really need to have a complete feel for what they sell and want to do with their ecommerce site. Get educated on their business, know what they want to do, and have some answers like the "why do affiliate stuff". That should give you a good starting point to find solutions that fit their needs.
