5 ways to market my video business - Advice needed

Hey all,

Three months ago I set up a marketing biz that offered websites, mobile sites, ads, etc... I was generating leads by emailing businesses and offering them a marketing video at very good prices. At this point video was nothing more than a lead generation tool.

However over the past 3 months my partner and I have become far more involved in video and now are keen to become a video production biz rather than general online marketing (we have the hardware and software to take simple photos or even record in 3D and are getting pretty handy with FCPX etc..) We are making much better videos than previously, and now we produce videos that are far higher quality than the £1000 videos that yellow pages sell. Yet ours are closer to £200 (about 2 hours total work for that £200)

We are comfortably selling these via email and recommendations but we now want to start really advertising ourselves, boosting the sales 2/3x and then automating and perhaps out sourcing the production.

We thought that 5 streams of advertising would be good and perhaps even allow us to stop emailing out all together.

So... How would you advertise a video production business that makes advertising videos for UK businesses?

My current ideas: Direct mail with a postcard & Facebook .....need more

Call them and tell them that you made a video for them and ask if they would like to see it. Tell them what the cost would be IF THEY LIKE IT.
If they aren't interested, call the next in line. If they are, make a vid, watermark it, send them a link... try that for a day or two and see if the response is great enough to tweak and continue.

You can partner up w/ other local businesses that already have your target customers as their customers. Offer them a commission/rev-share program.

Examples include - local web design firms, SEO shops, accountants, small business lawyers, caterers, ...

Not sure how big craigslist is in the UK, but you can also use local popular online classified sites to both advertise your services and harvest emails from small businesses who have posted on there.

I'm in the process of doing the same for a our local video production company. I have a few ideas, we are doing direct marketing post cards, networking at local events, cold calling, cold emailing, strategic partnerships, and asking for referrals. 90% of the people we do work for are recommended by someone else. So we've started asking customers if they know of 4-5 people who could possibly use us and if they could give us their contact info and allow us to use their name. So far it hasn't generated any revenue but it has generated interest, but it's only been a week so we'll see how it goes.

How much are the Yellow Pages videos? I saw one on a website for a local business in my town I was searching for and wondered how much those were. The worst part about it is that at the end, there is an advertisement for the Yellow Pages! Anyone have an idea of how much those YP videos cost in the U.S. ?

    Thanks for the info.

Yell videos range from £500 to £3700. The £500 one are just a crap (I mean really crap) slideshow. But for a voiceover video £900-1100 depending on 30 seconds or 1 minute.

The do not make them themselves either... they are outsourced.

So far my ideas are then... partnerships, ppc, seo, biz forums, facebook

I think wit facebook I may go down the affiliate route. Instead of trying to sell videos. Simply ask for referrals in exchange for commission!

I would market it just like any other kind of business. A mixture of offline and online marketing. Direct mail, newspaper advertising, magazine advertising, trade journal advertising, chamber of commerce, PPC, article marketing, ezine advertising, joint ventures, forum marketing, and etc.

Video SEO is super easy these days, especially since Google bought YouTube. It's easier to rank video content on Google page 1, than any other content type. Here's a quick rundown of the steps to get serious visibility for your videos and your business...

    1) Use Google free keyword tool to find your best keyword (i.e. video production dallas)
    2) Use keyword in your video file names
    3) Upload your videos to YouTube, DailyMotion, Vimeo, etc.
    4) Include your keyword in the video title twice and description three times
    5) Buy 500-ish backlinks with your keyword as anchor text, pointed at your video pages ($5 on Fiverr)

You should be on page 1 within 24 hours. This is the ultimate advertising to show off your videos, PLUS you can offer this Video SEO service to your video production clients.

    To your success!
    Anthony

Stumbled upon this thread from Google so I'll just go ahead and assume that the question is relevent even though TS probably left a while ago.

Does anyone have any experience of both selling your service (in this case videos) in a WSO and on oDesk? Could you possibly share your experience?
