Google Places questions....

Google Places is one thing I don't know much about...Admittedly, I should know much, much more....

Anyway, I was thinking I need to learn the finer points....

Can anyone suggest a resource that can give me an overview of Places, how to set up the listing and best practices for ranking it high?

Surely, there are a few good WSO's out there....I haven't had any luck finding one.....

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks

    Hey Billiams,

I actually just purchased the Google Places Zen Master WSO last week and in my opinion is the most comprehensive GP ranking strategy that I have come across.

    Search it on the forum.

Personally, I have signed up for localinternetmarketinguniversity.com here recently, and he teaches exactly how to find clients, get their places page claimed, ranked, etc.

One thing that he does cover, that I don't see often, is keyword research for google places. He then shows how to make sure your images and videos are optimized for the keywords you are targeting. And how to make sure you get a citation from your youtube videos.

It is a very good course so far, but has a monthly membership price.

    Thanks
    Jason

Here´s a little tip: Not sure if this comes from combining adwords and places, but places were where we started to look when solving this. A client moved address and though his places adress got changed a link to the old adress appeared in his adwords ads. and that link just took you to a map saying no such business here!

SO - and here´s the easy solution.

Make sure - if you move address - to update your Adwords billing adress as well or you will find Google pointing people in the wrong direction.

There are a lot of great courses on the Warrior Forum that teach about Google Places. I think I purchased most of them. The Google Places Zen Master is a really good course.

Did you ever find good info about Google Places? I see that this thread got started a while back.

I've been doing Google Places optimization for several different businesses over the last two years. It's always changing and getting your clients to rank in the A spot seems to be getting harder and harder.

Especially getting citations since Google quit listing them.

I suggest checking out WhiteSparks citation tool. It's the best one I've seen.

Also, you've got to set up a system or mechanism for consistently getting reviews from a variety of sources. I've tried QR codes, but they don't seem to get much traction.

I have to agree with the others. The Google Places Zen Master is a really good course. I have purchased a few as well and have found that this one is the best so far.

Optimize your website for the place page.
Create listing according to the main page. Do not stuff keywords do not repeat cities again and again. Be natural.
Correct your citations. Make them as much similar to your place page.
Find the ones that are automatically created in the directories and correct them.
Wait and keep patience. The site will not jump to number one spot there is a way to do it but that is not a legal way and will be penalized lately.

Google Places Zen Master is a great resource as is Google Places Takeover by Mario Brown and Brian Anderson. Google Places Takeover shows you optimization techniques considering the last changes by Google in November. Both these resources contain way more information than what has been suggested in this thread so far.

      • Regardless what course you take, something really important and FREE that most local SEOs and GP consultants don't do, but should is...

You need to read the Google Places forum every single day. At the very least skim every thread. Important guideline changes are shared there and you'll find lots of subtle unwritten rules that are causing penalties, new bugs, fixes for bugs, best practices and what to avoid.

I stress to all my students it's imperative if you are working with Places!
GP changes so much you really need to stay on top of the forum or you miss out and can end up pulling your hair out, wasting time or worse yet, getting your clients in trouble. :p

I'm a Top Contributor @ the GP forum and so is Nyagoslav who is also a member here. If you follow our posts and Vanessa, the GP Community Manager's posts there you can learn a lot about all the GP changes and how to best deal with them.

You need a review/reviews but make sure it comes from reliable person with the high rates and really good intention not from a spammer.

Brian anderson's google places outline is very good, but an outline. I've found most of the citation setup services to be quite good too on the WSO's and classifieds. Don't use ubl or a blanket citation service for a variety of reasons.
