For those doing local marketing

Are you only doing local marketing because you believe there is a lot of $ or because you have tech skills.

Or have you spent years understanding marketing?

Local marketing, at least in my case, is a natural extension of the type of marketing that I'm already doing for my own affiliate sites.

Plus, the small businesses that are all around are really hurting and the marketing paradigm has totally shifted over the last couple of years - if someone doesn't help them, they are doomed for failure.

All of those mentioned. I own an offline business this is suffering due to the housing downturn. I am also a software engineer, so I started offering my services to other businesses THEN found the WF and all these resources to help me complete and sell specific services. Still learning the marketing part of it.

I am definitely not a tech. I can barely put up a Blogger blog.

But, I understand small business and the challenges they face, I understand marketing, I understand Internet Marketing as it relates to their marketing in general.

      We speak the same language.

It could be that people are working in this area for reasons other than those you have listed in your post. Maybethey really like the combination of working online and offline. Or maybe they think there is something they can do to realy serve the businesses in their communities. Or maybe even something else.

Local marketing can still work. It just takes the right method to do so. Although Internet marketing is today's "in" thing with regards to marketing means, local marketing is still effective if done right.
